Re: MLB Off-Topic

I always argued during the Giants' down years after Bonds was "forced out," that if they resigned him they would've made all that money back and then some by attendance and merchandising alone.

If your team signs Ohtani, you're getting guaranteed sellouts every time that he pitches (whenever that happens again), and of course everyone is buying his merch as well. Is it $500 million worth of returns? No, but you need to weigh everything in that you can. He comes with bonuses that no other player can, including possible playoff hopes.

The Angels are just cursed, is all. Much like the Mets. And it's hilarious.

One reason I do wonder how much interest Jays would have.

Unlike the US teams, their games are on the network owned by the same company who owns the team. So instead of losing local games due to Fox or whoever getting them, you might boost your own viewers and get more advertising money in on your own network.

It's weird to think how/where Babe Ruth hit his first pro HR.

That place obviously no longer exists, but it's weird to imagine a baseball field on an island with an amusement park. That's Create a Stadium level of cool.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

One of the less talked about World Series is 1992.

Game 1 - ATL wins
Game 2 - TOR scores 2 in the top 9th to win
Game 3 - TOR scores 1 in the bottom 8th to tie, 1 in the bottom 9th to win
Game 4 - TOR wins by 1 run (ATL threat in the 8th stopped)
Game 5 - ATL wins
Game 6 - ATL ties in the bottom 9th, TOR scores 2 in top 11th, ATL scores 1 in bottom 11th but loses

1991 WS felt like it was really back/forth but ATL was better all around. It's one of the few 6-game WS where the winning team was outscored in the series.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

I always wondered how much different it could have been for those Braves if they had won that first one.

Or put another way, the Blue Jays won that World Series despite their "ace" Jack Morris stinking up the joint every time he took the mound.

0-3, 7.43 ERA, 18K/15BB in 4 ALCS/WS starts. The only Morris start Toronto won, he was yanked down 5-1 in Oakland before the Jays made a late comeback capped by Alomar's 9th inning HR off Eck.

Cursed by bad ownership, from what it sounds like.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

The Rangers are 4-16 in their last 20. This collapse has been terrible.
