Re: MLB Off-Topic

Stat of the day: there is only one player in baseball history with at least one stolen base without being caught in 10 seasons.

That player…Greg Maddux.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

Ohtani likely getting TJS, does that mean he's gone for the 2024 season?

I wonder how this would impact his free agency. When he comes back, you don't know how he will be. Does he continue being a SP, a reliever, just a hitter?

Either way, Angels not trading Ohtani at the deadline could go down in history as the worst "non trade" ever. Especially when you know in a few years we'll hear reports about Angels turning down deals for prospects who in 5-10 years from now, there's bound to be rejected offers for guys who became stars.

No...Bryce Harper had TJS in November of 2022 and returned in May of 2023 as a DH.

I wouldn't expect Ohtani to pitch next year if he does indeed get TJS, but there's no reason to believe he couldn't return to the lineup as a DH at some point in the 2024 season.

It's more than possible I'm out of the loop but do we even know if the Angels received a realistic offer?

No team would give up would it would take to get him without the guarantee of him re-signing with that team and from what I read it didn't seem like he was willing to make that guarantee.

All I know is that I want no part of Ohtani and the anchor that is likely to be his contract.

Great guy and a phenomenal player who is easy to root for. I wish him the best, and I'll be rooting for him, but I don't want any part of that contract. No thanks, hard pass.

It would be cool to have him, but, when's the last time an astronomical baseball contract worked out?

(and yeah, I say this as a Tigers fan finally at the end of the Cabrera contact)

One could argue that, based on (regular season) production, the 1st 7 years (2001-07) of A-Rod's megadeal with Texas provided good value to both the Rangers and Yankees. The subsequent 10-year contract he signed with the Yankees after opting out? Not so much.
