This is more than likely due to game systems and phones/tablets that they now let you trade.

God knows those are very popular items that are stolen.

Would you not want to catch the thief that stole your ipad and traded into gamestop? This makes the police work a lot simpler.
The majority of folks don't write down their ipad serial numbers, and more than likely anything that was on said ipad was deleted before it's traded in.........so how would they know it's stolen?

You can find your iPad serial# through a myriad of ways. No need to write it down. The device is tied to your iTunes account.

I am not sure why anyone would try to steal hardware. Return is low on your investment, and it's easy to track down. Software is much easier to move much more easily acquired and impossible to track.

Because if it's stolen, it was most likely reported as stolen.

I think, and don't quote me on this, Android products have similar capabilities.

If you do not like the way a place operates, there are plenty of alternatives.
There aren't plenty of alternatives for everyone. There are plenty of areas where gs is the only retail option to trade in games. In my area, the closest retail trade in place is 15 miles away other than gs.

I get why they are doing this, apparently trading in stolen games has become a real issue, and they could find them selves liable in some way.

Am I off on this Aaron?
In philly, gs is not seen as a pawn shop. They are assisting the Philly police because they want to not because they have too.

Also they can't be held liable unless they had actual knowledge the trade in was stolen.

If that's the case, then when it comes to protecting themselves this has no merit?
