What about BestBuy or Amazon? Isn't Target taking trade ins now?

Forgive me, I am out of the game trading loop. I've used Amazon the past few times I've traded in games, but really am not sure what other options are out there.

Yep. What are they protecting themselves from? They can't be held liable if thy don't know the goods are stolen. They also could collect other personal information in connection with reviewing ids to assist the police if they discover stolen goods were traded in. There is no need to collect fingerprints.

The bb and target in my area don't do in store trade ins. I use amazon online but not everyone is savvy enough to know about them. Gs is the only in store retailer that does trade ins in my immediate area.

Sounds like a waste of time and resources then.

Yep and kind of an invasion of privacy. I don't think anyone should feel comfortable with some 16 yr old gamestop employee having our fingerprints.

I don't sweat the 16 yr old GS worker much, they wouldn't know what to do with fingerprints to begin with, and really don'y have access to anything that could take advantage of that.

GS corporate, that's another story. Due to my occupation, my prints are out there, but I am not handing them over to a private entity for no good reason.

Again, not a huge deal for me, I am mostly digital purchases these days anyway, so I don't have a ton of opportunities to trade games in, but in this case, I understand the trepidation people have with this.

You feel like a private business should be told how to run themselves, I don't believe they should within reason.

We just have a difference of opinions.

I think the fingerprint move is stupid. People who steal will hear this and then simply jam up those who are somewhat innocent. They'll go pick up a homeless dude to trade in the items on their behalf for a beer. Either that or a buddy who has no idea something is stolen.

It might catch a fish or two but overall it won't be a big success and it might negatively impact business. For example the overall tone in this thread is clearly against GS and this practice, so maybe they'll lose some customers out of it.

If I'm GS there is no incentive to even help out law enforcement.
