Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

One piece of advice from a guy his in his early 40s….. get into the habit of stretching.

I used to HATE it. I’d show up to play ball and just go but after a lot of injuries, especially in 2022 (started with COVID, then my calf, then both hammy’s) I’ve told myself that I’m dedicating at least 10-15 mins everyday for it. Dynamic warmups and cool down stretches have helped so much lately. it’s a nice mental cooldown too where I can just close my eyes, listen to the instructor or some music and just work on my flexibility.

It's interesting, because any time I'd play slow pitch softball everybody else would just go out there like it's nothing, toss the ball for a second, and then be good to go. I, on the other hand, would love at least a 30-40 minute warmup of some sort. I really want to get stretched, throw the ball a bit, get my legs loose, etc.

It's not about the sport being "serious" or anything of that nature, even though I'm a competitive guy anyway... it's about me keeping my body healthy. I think that has caused more minor injuries in me more than anything else in the past 5-7 years.

The only thing I'm not good at is stretching after a workout or on an off-day, and I should really start doing both.

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

Question: Does anyone here use a Fitbit or similar device (Apple Watch etc.) in their workouts? Does it help? Is it useful? I don't want to spend $100's on something I would barely use and then feel silly.

LOVE my galaxy watch. It's very accurate to what a heart beat sensor, or the machine (cardio) I use for steps and calories. I wear it every single day.

Love my Fitbit. Helps me realize if I'm dogging it in a workout and pick up the pace or intensity. Plus I like the step counter and I can set reminders to have a step goal every hour.

2022 Fitness Adventure

I use an Apple Watch for when I train normally (bike, wrights, etc…) and a polar fitness chest strap when I box because the hand wraps mess with the Watch sensors.

I think the polar chest strap is more accurate but some folks don’t like it since it can feel awkward.

The Apple Watch syncs with my phone so I can use it to control my music.

Does the phone have to be nearby to sync?

I'm wondering because if I run on the track with a Galaxy Fit or Galaxy Watch and wanted to listen to music, I wouldn't want the phone on me at the same time.

I'm guessing it's probably a Bluetooth connection so it likely has to be close.

For mine, it is Bluetooth and I need to be within 25 feet of my device for it to work.
