Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

I'm the absolute poster boy of skinny fat. 5'11" 165-ish, but soft, jiggly torso. I've got to sort that out this year. I figure there's probably 15-20 pounds of fat on my torso. Got to stop binge eating at night.

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

I started conditioning with my softball players a few weeks ago, and we took last week off and are taking this week off before tryouts. They can condition on their own, which is what I'm doing for myself. This is my first time doing anything really physical at all outside of just regular softball practice stuff.

Anyway, last week after school I hit the track every day (we didn't have school Monday), and did three-mile runs. On Tuesday I ran a 19:06, Wednesday 19:07, Thursday 18:54, Friday 18:58. We had softball practice for my travel team yesterday, and I'm taking today off.

This next week I'm going to do my routine on the track as follows:

Monday - 3 laps
Tuesday - 2 laps, then 2 laps of sprinting straights and walking curves
Wednesday - 4 laps (mile)
Thursday - Same as Tuesday
Friday - 5 miles

I think I want to alternate this with the three-mile runs I'm doing, so one week do one and then do the other the following week. Diversifies things a little. I'm just hoping that I stay healthy, because it's normally injuries that bog me down (last time it was air quality, then school started and I got far too busy).

The only health concern I have right now is that out the gate on Tuesday I ran my three-mile with a bit of a cramp, because I ran a little too closely to having a relatively larger meal. That cramp hasn't really subsided, so to speak. Sometimes I don't feel it, but other times I really feel it's some abdominal muscle pull that I have to be careful with. That's the primary reason I'm taking today off before this upcoming week, and hopefully the shorter runs (except the five-mile, which I won't push as hard as three miles) will help comfort it, even though I'll be running more intensely especially for the two-lap runs.

Anyway, we'll see how long this lasts. Like I said, the softball season is starting up and I may ache a little too much at the same time. Eventually I disinterest myself if I ever take a break, so let's hope that doesn't happen this time around!

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

5:17 mile today. Despite it being my first timed mile in about 1.5 years, I was actually not pleased. Not because of the time, but because of the slowdown after the first lap. I honestly didn't even know that it was happening. I went about 1:13, 1:21, 1:23, 1:20 (and I was really trying to kick it up at the end).

I know that pacing out that first lap a few seconds longer will actually help me in the long run (legit no pun intended) especially for the final kick, so here's to hoping I learn that pacing two weeks from now and can get that down to around 5:08 or so.

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

I did a 34:22 five-mile run today, and I felt like I had "a lot left in the tank." What I mean by that is I was mostly pacing to stay under 1:45 per lap, and in the final lap I just said that I wanted to push harder and got it in 1:20 with still a pretty good sprint at the end. The real problem was the feeling of a cramp coming on in the fourth mile, but it never really fully formed. I still can't figure that out.

My right knee doesn't feel fantastic right now in certain positions, but outside of coaching softball practice tomorrow morning I'm not doing anything the next two days. Then a five-day three-mile week if I'm able to work that in my schedule (spring sports start and I'm coaching H.S. softball as well, so we'll see how that all goes).

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

Finished T-25 Beta last week.

Started T-25 Gamma today. Supposedly it adds more weight training, though today was 100% cardio, and I feel like I should just complete the whole program at this point.

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

This was on at the end of a Family Guy episode where Lois got a Peloton (she went on it for three days total).

What's funny is how well I was able to predict what they were going to say in the second part of each caption (for the most part).

Anyway, if I keep it up I'm about to be like Lois and run out of steam. I ran three miles each the last two days, getting 18:48 and 18:55. My legs are really feeling it. I'm sure I could lower the pace a little, but I still push. I have three more days of it this week. Again, we'll see how long I last. I'd definitely love to break that five minute mile, but I'm guessing that I'm at least five weeks away from that.

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

Make sure you recover enough after hard workouts.

The closer you follow the plan, the better results you will see, but if you can't complete some of the workouts as prescribed, don't worry about it, as some workouts are better than no workouts. Do not forget about various supplements of vitamins, minerals and amino acids to improve your body's restorative properties.

Re: 2022 Fitness Adventure

So guys, in general terms, what have been your experience with gyms/gyms memberships and the like? I'm thinking that maybe by summer I could get membership for Planet Fitness and would like to know if it is worth it.
