Re: NHL 2022 Offseason

Here's an interesting one.

Blake Wheeler has been Jets captain since 2016.

Blake Wheeler is still with the Jets.

Blake Wheeler is no longer captain of the Jets.

PK Subban retires!

Surprised his career just ended like that. Only 33, thought someone might give him a shot.

Despite that, you know he's getting TV offers for sure. I wonder if ESPN, TNT or SN will offer the most money.

Chara and Yandle also retired on the same day!

That's what I'm guessing, too. He must have a TV deal in his back pocket to retire that early.

Re: NHL 2022 Offseason

The most surprising thing about MacKinnon's contract is not that he becomes the highest paid player in the league (AAV wise), it's that he and his agent made the Avs pay him mostly via signing bonus which the team has shied away from in recent years.

I'd love him joining the SN/HNIC panel. Maybe even become the new 1st intermission guy? Don't get me wrong, Don Cherry obviously didn't say things all the time that most people agreed with, but he was still entertaining. 1st intermissions have never been the same since.

Subban is one of the guys who could easily get offers from the US and Canadian broadcasters, and I could even see him getting a deal where he can do both (maybe HNIC and then TNT during the week or something like that?)

Either way, crazy how early his career ended. I still remember watching him in the world juniors and feeling like he'd be a great hockey player.

Apparently he wanted to play with either the Leafs or Habs. When neither of those teams were interested, he decided to retire.

I'm a big Subban fan and I still think his career was somewhat derailed after being pushed out of Montreal.
I don't think Therian liked him very much and his extrovert personality rubbed some of the players the wrong way.
But I loved his offensive game. He was one of the most fun players to watch. And I'm the furthest thing from a Montreal fan.
If he had remained in Montreal I think his numbers would look much better.

I'm surprised Leafs didn't want him, unless he just didn't want to sign for vet min, because like I said, I'm sure he'll get TV offers (which will be 7 figures).

I'd rather take a shot with Giordano and PK on vet min deals over Holl or some AHL callup.

Re: NHL 2022 Offseason

Preseason games haven't started and we're already into the "added ___ pounds of muscle over the offseason" portion of training camp that we hear about in every sport about half the rosters.
