NHL 2022 Offseason

Leafs offseason on their road to 2023 round 1 game 7 loss had begun.

Giordano signed to a team friendly 2 year deal.

And Spezza announces his retirement and immediately joining the Leafs front office as special assistant to the GM.

Re: NHL 2022 Offseason

Stars trade Bishops contract and a 7th pick to Sabres.

4.9m cap hit which puts Sabres closer to the cap floor.

3.5m in actual salary is worth only a 7th rounder? I'd definitely have asked for way more.

And it's another reminder of how the NHL cap system is a joke. You're forcing rich teams to be stuck under a hard cap, thus limiting how much they can spend/how much players can earn, while teams who don't care to spend can get away with adding dead money to reach the floor.

NHL 2022 Offseason

Looking like The John Tortorella Experience is coming to Philly...

Honestly, I don’t even know how to fix this team. Torts has a rep as a hardass so I assume that’s what they’re going for. I feel like they’ve tried different coaching styles and the results have all been the same. Maybe next one will be a super young guy, haven’t gone that route really.

Will be 7th coach in 10 years for the Flyers. I believe that includes interim coaches (2) so not as bad as it looks but sheesh. Even worse, all those coaches deserved the axe besides maybe Berube, who went on to win a Cup with
STL after another former Flyers coach was fired (Hitchcock) there. The life of a Flyers fan, lol.

Re: NHL 2022 Offseason

Torts in Philly should be fun. Honestly the downside is limited, it either works or the fallout is so nuclear that it causes changes throughout the organization (a la Vancouver).

Still don't understand why Boston fired Cassady, good hire for Vegas I suppose.

Sabres will put Bishop on IR and pay $0. It allows Buffalo to hit the floor and gives Dallas some more flexibility, since they cannot put guys on IR until the start of the season.

Re: NHL 2022 Offseason

We could probably use a total blow up in the front office. I think right now a prerequisite to work for the Flyers is you had to play for the Flyers with how much alumni is in high level positions. Not all are bad, but it’s become a joke at this point.

I had so much hope for the crop of young players we had coming up, but now those young guys are 5-7 years in to their career and we’ve gotten worse results as a team then before they were here. Feels like we totally whiffed on the last half decade of potential we had.

Weber's contract to Vegas for Dadonov.

Not sure how this exactly helps Vegas. Dadonov had just 1 year left on his deal.

They must know Weber has zero plans to return at any point so it’ll just by LTIR and cap relief.

But that's the thing though.

Dadonov is just on the hook for 1 more season. So his cap would've been off the books next offseason, which I imagine is better than needing to use LTIR in the future seasons. How does that save Vegas money beyond this season?
