Those were all or nothing signings.

At the time though it really did look like the Wild were gonna break out with those moves.

You had a .500 team add two all stars and all they could do is win 2 total rounds over that decade.

NHL 2021 Offseason

I’m sure there are a lot of teams who would like to make the playoffs every year. They just never got an elite goal scorer. Parise was never a superstar.

You could argue that to get Suter, you had to pay the Parise tax. I think Detroit allegedly offered the same number of years but with an AAV of 9 M to Suter, but nothing to Parise.

Those Wild teams always seemed better on paper than in actuality. They were super deep, but they never made the jump to truly elite. I never liked Mike Yeo and by the time BBQ Bruce showed up, the window was almost closed.

With the buyouts, it was either this year or never. This coming season is the only season, due to the way the contracts were structured, where the Wild could get any cap benefit. They're probably hoping the cap will go up down the road help cover some of the dead cap hit.

Ryan Graves is finally gone

Now if Seattle takes Donskoi or Compher, that’ll help with some of the cap issues

NYI trades Leddy to Detroit for EDM 2nd and Panik (50% retained).

Honestly NYI got the better end of the deal, but this isn't horrible for Detroit. Might be able to get the 2nd back at the deadline.

Re: NHL 2021 Offseason

Supposedly the hottest FA this year isn't Ovechkin or Hall or Parise or Suter. It's Zach Hyman.

Oilers seem so interested in him that they might be considering a sign and trade with the Leafs so that Hyman can sign with them for 8 years.

Go ahead I guess? Leafs were reported to be interested in Bertuzzi, who does sound like a Hyman replacement anyways, just younger.

That's completely insane, but look who we're talking about.
