Re: NHL 2021 Offseason

Fleury dealt to the Hawks, but also sounds like he might think of retirement.

Re: NHL 2021 Offseason

Ovechkin back to the Caps. 5 year deal with 9.5m cap hit. So he'll play until he's 40 and retire.

With 5 more years left, he has a realistic shot to break some records.

Marleaus games played record could be broken too depending how much longer Marleaus career goes and how many games Ovechkin plays.

He's 165 goals away from breaking Gretzkys record. That's an average of 33 goals a season if Ovechkin is playing 5 more.

Also, Leafs could be signing Josh Ho-Sang to a deal. Given his issues with the Islanders, we'll see if he can prove himself with the Leafs. And it's also a move I wouldn't be surprised if they asked Tavares about beforehand, since he was the Islanders captain and would know about the pros and cons with Ho-Sang and what went wrong.

He found out on Twitter.
GM said it was leaked before the deal was even signed.
Interestingly, they had a deal in place to send Fleury back to Pittsburgh during the season but the owner, Foley, squashed the deal stating Fleury was going to retire a Knight.
Then he does a 180 a few months later?
Very odd.

Speaking of nuts, there's a rumour that the Canes are looking to sign Tony DeAngelo.
Upon hearing this, Cane Nation is protesting bigtime.
Apparently their ticket sales Dept is taking thousands of calls from seasons ticket holders threatening to drop their tickets if they do sign him.

Good on Canes fans for doing that. He shouldn't be in the NHL at all. Trudeau I believe even commented on the Habs draft pick. Can't imagine he'd be happy about Deangelo either.

Fleury situation will be interesting. He didnt want to leave Vegas due to family reasons, I'd imagine either Vegas or Pittsburgh is where he'd want to go, so if he really gives Hawks a choice of retire or trade him, maybe he winds up in Pittsburgh for his final year?

Desmith for Fleury or something.

Re: NHL 2021 Offseason

Leafs big plan in net is signing Mrazek who in his last 6 seasons has just 1 with a SV% above .915?

And to a 3 year deal as well....

Not sure what they're thinking here.

And now the Canes trade for Ethan Bear - while still discussing signing TDA.
This sounds like a horrible sitcom pitch.
How does an organization, which started the Lets Get Uncomfortable campaign to battle racism in hockey do this?

DeAngelo's dad was interviewed and he excused his son's horrible racist nature by saying "That's just how we roll in South Philly".
This is the guy they're going to bring into their dressing room while trading for a First Nations individual?

Just more proof with how toxic the hockey culture is - particularly in the NHL.
They really don't care. Can you play hockey? Don't worry about sexual misconduct, spousal abuse, racism. There's a spot for all of you!
Hockey is for everyone! (translation: Hockey is for rich, homophobic, misogynistic, white males).

Re: NHL 2021 Offseason

NHL is now on ESPN and a major story could be TDA. Horrible look for the NHL.

And did they get Bear so he could be the token teammate as "proof" that TDA is accepting of everyone.

I sure hope not. Bear is a very good defenseman and doesn't deserve any of this.
My hope is that they traded for him instead of getting TDA.

In other news, I really hope we hear about an Eichel trade today.
I've heard it's down to Rangers and Vegas.
