P.S. Is it true Skinner didn't score a goal in the last 18 games?
Not true. Though he went 13 games at one point without a goal. And 1 in 22.

The income tax thing is a bit more nuanced. Half of athletes' income tax is based on their road games, so the benefit of being in Florida neutered. Barring some exceptions like California, most state income tax ranges 4-6%. Lastly, Florida has high property taxes, so they'll get hit when they slap up a big mansion.

I'm surprised that CBJ hasn't dealt any of their player rights yet, even for late round picks. The Jets already picked up a 5th from Philly for Hayes' rights.

Still, taxes alone are enough an incentive to go to one team over another.

Canadian cities, you're taxed over 50%. More taxes in Toronto, Ottawa,Montreal than Anaheim,LA,San Jose.

I saw a post showing difference in salaries.

9.5m deal in Florida,Nashville,Vegas,Dallas gets you almost 5.8m.

9.5m deal in high taxed places gets you about 4.5M.

When Seattle gets a team, they'll be another who'll benefit from lack of taxes. One of the cities who no doubt could attract western Canadian players alot.

I was speaking more to comparing different US cities/states; when comparing US to Canadian cities, then the tax laws are significantly in favor of the US. Canadian cities also have to deal with a myriad of other issues working against it, such as differences in currency, weather and media coverage.

None of this changes my original point: The Sabres giving Skinner that kind of money & length is suicidal.

Blackhawks trade Kahun to the Penguins for Maatta.

Not sure how I feel about this one, on one hand we have plenty of bottom 6 forwards, we're adding Kubalik to the mix, and we will likely go forward with the #3 pick (hoping Turcotte), so as much as I like Kahun we have the depth to replace him I just don't know that I love the return.

I remember Maatta looked great his rookie year, then hes battled injuries, finally played a full season in 17-18 but sounds like overall he has failed to live up to his potential (probably due to injuries) and isn't a good skater.

So trading a depth forward making less than a million for a 4 mil per year dman with a lot of questions seems well questionable.

Kahun would be a FA next year when we have to pay DeBrincat and at least Maatta is cost controlled but still. Also someone they can leave unprotected in the expansion draft.

We do badly need defensive help to solidify the backend while we bring our young guys in but not sure this was the right fit due to cap hit and injury history.

Loved watching him his rookie year hopefully he can get back to that with a change of scenery but I think injuries have taken a toll.
