Both probably gone next year (Wilson a FA, Fields $25m 5th year option), along with Tomlin, if this season is anything but wildly successful.

Google says deadline on 5th year options is 5/2. I think if they picked his up it'd be a surprise.

Now this is ALL pure speculation on my part, but my good friend and I were talking about this very thing, and it does make some kind of sense (I think...lol)

In hearing Rooney recently he was saying something about wanting playoff wins (or something to that effect, can't remember his exact words) so what is currently happening?

Omar is in essence "loading" this team up for a playoff run and I'm not just talking about winning 1 playoff game, what I believe may happen is if Tomlin isn't able to get this team to the AFC championship, not necessarily winning, but not being blown out either, then I can easily see a scenario where Tomlin is let go.

Like I was saying though, it's all pure speculation, but there is something "strange" brewing in the Steel City...

Tomlin is going to get an extension before next season. It just hasn't happened yet. That's been made clear. He won't be sent packing even if the season goes south. The only thing that could change that outcome is Tomlin himself but he told the players after last season that he will be around.

As for Wilson, if the Steelers want him back in 2025, they will get it done. They are slated to have about $110M in cap space at this time.

There is no way the Steelers pick up that option on Fields. But that doesn't mean 100% that he'll only be there for a year. There are other ways to retain him if they want to.

Still flabbergasted that Fields is traded for a 6th. Sounds like Chicago wanted no lower than a 2nd for him and no one else in the league viewed him as starting QB material. Shows how the Bears FO has massively overvalued him…

That's a bit rough of a take I think. What is the front office supposed to ask for? They aren't going to intentionally undervalue him. The FA period just went nuts this year and the market for him crashed.

I saw folks on Twitter going crazy over the same things you mention.

Feel like people have too much Fantasy Football on the brain because what has he shown in any of his years in the league made people think he was worth a Day 1/2 pick?
