Played 2k1 and 2k3.

2k1 was because I was going to get a ps2, couldn’t find one, and realized we could get a Dreamcast and a bunch of games for the price of a ps2 so we did that. I didn’t really like 2k1 though, and when we got a ps2 the next year I went back to madden

2k3 I don’t remember what made me try it, probably either reviews or just impressions on here but I loved it. Felt more like real football than any game I had ever played

Same here with dreamcast fueling my purchase. Dont try n think about it as much nowadays tho like some. My patience is not at the respectable level it needs to be with development and the road nfl football gaming has taken since those days. Keep my opinions to myself since im not working for madden.

My 1st ever purchase with my own money from working. Dreamcast and NFL 2k on Day 1. Played them all. Miss this franchise every day.

Re: Anyone played any NFL 2K game before 2K4?

NFL2k3 was my introduction to 2k football. Prior to that I had been a pretty hard-core "Madddenite".

NFL2k3 absolutely blew my mind in terms of how much farther ahead it was than Madden, especially in terms of gameplay and presentation.

Although I owned both games, I was impressed to the point of "ministering" on an old Madden forum (Maddenmania) about NFL2k.

I'm slightly embarrassed by it now but, at the time, I felt like the Madden crowd was just plain sleep or blatantly ignorant to how much better 2k3 was on the field.

Over time, however, others began to see the light. It got to the point where we had a sort of NFL2k cult on Maddenania. LOL!

It eventually got me banned from that site and rightfully so. But I've no regrets. Those were good times, especially with us having a choice of multiple NFL sim-style games on consoles.

Re: Anyone played any NFL 2K game before 2K4?

The original NFL2K was the reason I walked into a Babbage's in the mall and purchased a Dreamcast on sight.

They were playing what I thought was an actual NFL game on their external-facing TV's, and I went for a closer look and realized it was a game. I asked the guy working what the heck that was, he told me it was NFL2K on Sega Dreamcast. My only question at that point was "do you have any of these I can buy right now?".

Best game of all time.

Totally.

That kind of advertising definitely worked back in the day. I guess people don't shop in person anymore, but back when we used to do that, seeing a game on those external-facing TV's was dynamite advertising. It was like the video-game equivalent of Oprah's book club. I literally walked into a store and bought a system & game I knew nothing about prior to that exact moment based on the original NFL2K streaming on an external mall-facing TV.
