Shouldn’t it be the other way around in marketing haha.

U would think so, it’s almost like they broadcast standard definition versions of the game

They're talking about compression from video streaming leading to degraded image quality. There's nothing the marketing team can do about that. The game DOES look better in person, but that doesn't mean the game looks as good as it could.

I personally think there's been a solid upgrade in nighttime lighting as well as materials quality in certain instances but the grass and dirt still looks like dull carpet with no light bounce and it sticks out like a sore thumb compared with the material lighting of the rest of the game. I find it to be truly strange that something that is seen in basically every frame of gameplay continues to go untouched. I harp on about uniforms a lot but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that the fields are by far the worst looking thing in the game.

I think it would wreck havoc on the framerate and that’s why they haven’t done anything with grass and dirt textures that are in literally every frame of the game

This has always been my thought as well. It's a sacrifice to keep the game moving seamlessly.

And one that they have to fully commit to now that there's such an online competitive presence in this game. You can't go back to the days of gameplay framerate dips at this point - They have to be absolutely sure that any graphical enhancements they do won't tank the framerate.

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread

Textures have essentially zero impact on framerate. The lack of better textures on things like the dirt and grass are not due to framerate worries. Or, I guess I should say they shouldn't have an impact unless their engine does things in a roundabout way.

I’d be shocked if it wasn’t a technical reason of some sort, I don’t think they just ignore something as important as grass texture for no good reason, I also disagree something as intricate as blades of grass on 3/4 of a video game screen wouldn’t affect FPS at all
