Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread

The bottom line is.. the graphics engine they're using and created is outdated and what's a snap for other engines to achieve is probably near impossible for SDS to achieve with their current engine (and maintain 60 FPS).

I said it before. Hopefully they've been workin on porting the game to a more flexible and current engine, but who knows.

Moving to a current engine will definitely bring improvements to graphics and animations, but the game will regress greatly in gameplay. Today's game engines are not made for sports games and force an animation-based gameplay system (severely preloaded movements). EA forced all their development studios to use Frostbite and EA Sports has suffered greatly from it in the gameplay department.

In my opinion, gameplay and AI will always reign supreme in sports games, which is why I love MLBTS and FIFA16.

Many people have gone about this conversation wrong, especially on the side where they don't really care about the graphics. It's as if some on here get defensive about the game for some odd reason and take issue with others not liking the lack of graphical updates over the years.

I would bet the vast majority of players in this thread, myself included, like the gameplay on the field for the most part, but we cannot overlook how objectively bad the graphics are for a current gen game in 2024. Simply criticizing the graphics is not calling this a bad game by any means, but there's a certain group of people here that clearly feel otherwise and feel it is their duty to defend SDS and The Show for whatever odd reason.
You’re 100 percent right. I don’t get the blind loyalty some here seem to have to SDS. Bottom line is, they are coasting with no competition.

How do they force an animation based gameplay system? Isn't that completely up to the developers?

Oh that isn't good. If Sony moves to a graphis laden based game that looks pretty but plays like a PS2 sports game, I might have to just buy the game every three years instead of every year. I hope CFB 25 isn't going to be like that but from the sounds of it, that's the new normal.

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread

Kind of sounds like we can not have both with MLB The Show.

It’s either great gameplay or great graphics and SDS will continue to pick great gameplay I guess.

I really wish we could have both!!!!!!

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread

Hasn't The Show already been an animation based gameplay system for basically it's entire existence? At least since the PS3 days. It's gotten much better over the years but getting stuck in animations has been a thing for as long as I can remember with this franchise.
