Re: How’s your franchise going? Madden 24 edition
I had been poking around a bit in the Franchise mode over the last week + with my Yearly Steelers franchise and a Commanders one. I ended up deleting the Commanders one because I had traded for Trey Lance, and with him moving to a division rival, the realism was lost. Plus, with the glitches ongoing with draft classes, I figured there's no sense in getting too invested before an update is pushed on my Steelers.
So with that, I decided to take advantage of the new Relocation Mechanic and do what I have dubbed "Relocation Roulette". In a nutshell, you take a team that you plan to relocate, do a fully simmed fantasy draft, and stick with the team the CPU Drafts for you. It's created some awesome storylines (Derek Carr is on the Texans trying to redeem his brother's legacy for one).
I was happily surprised to be gifted with some fantastic offensive weapons in Justin Fields, Jamarr Chase, and Mark Andrews with some great hidden dev WRs and fantastic edge protection from both the left and right side. We're not going to touch on the defense quite yet, although there are a couple hidden dev rookies in the secondary and speedy LBs.
I took the Jacksonville Jaguars, moved them to St. Louis, and renamed them as the Sentinels. I played through some of the preseason, mainly focusing on the offense just to get a feel for playing with Fields within Dougy P's offense, which I have to say has actually been fun to run thus far. Definitely going to be leaning heavily on Mark Andrews as he has a lot of routes that are complimentary to his skills.
Loaded into Week 1 against Indianapolis for our first taste of real action against a Division Rival. The Colts were led on offense by Dak which had me pretty worried considering in the preseason good QB's have absolutely torched my secondary (Burrow was 19/20 for 5 TDs in a half against me). In the first series, the Colts lost Kenneth Walker III to a Dislocated Shoulder on a blocking assignment, which allowed us to really hone in on our Short Passing Gameplan. Dak was lost, eventually throwing for four interceptions (three of which were literally directly right to the CPU defender). Usually I'd say "time to bump up the difficulty to All-Madden", but out of the tens of test games I've played, I've never had this much luck on defense, so I'm chalking it up to a one-off.
On offense, Justin Fields was perfect through his first 8 passes, before finishing up 3-11 with a pick. I made some poor choices, and also had some drops factor into that, but he still eclipsed the 200 yard mark through the air with a TD pass to Mark Andrews + a ground TD. Isiah Pacheco added another two on the ground, and a pair of Daniel Carlson FG's led us to a 34-3 Statement win to move to 1-0.
Next is the home opener vs the Chiefs. The Chiefs are led by Zeke + Kyler on offense, but their defense is very stout on the edges with Micah Parsons and a great secondary. We're going to try and pound the rock play a controlled, conservative brand of ball to keep the ball in possession because that's our best form of defense right now.
