Re: Retro Console/Game Collecting Thread

I recently scored an N64 from a Goodwill. It was the first system of my childhood (I am a youngin'..). I also got a copy of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. Somehow through all my time on that console, I never got around to playing through it. Hopefully sometime in the future, I will be able to sit down with it.

Picked up a Sega Gensis (model 2. The Genesis 3 I wanted didn't work) and a few games:

Sonic 1-3 (also got the Sonic & Knuckles attachment)
Vectorman
Mutant League Football
NBA Jam

Also a couple of NES games:
Skate Or Die 2
Carmen Sandiego

How much do you guys think is reasonable for retro consoles - specifically Genesis and PS2?

I found a Sega this weekend at an antique mall for $50 which included the console and two controllers.

Also - how can you hook them up without having a boob-tube?

Re: Retro Console/Game Collecting Thread

I'm really enjoying playing the sport titles on my Original Xbox. I had NFL 2K5, and NFL Fever 2003 when my brother in law gave it to me 2 months ago. Now I have All-Star Baseball 2005, High Heat 2004, Links, NHL Rivals, Inside Drive and my favourite game ever MVP 05. These games hold up well. I enjoy the fact that you put in the disc and just play. No downloading new titles. Also, when I play The Show and other current gen games, you really appreciate the jump in graphics.

I forgot All-Star baseball have generated counts. It's amazing some of the features these games had back then.

That's about what you'd expect to pay for a Genesis in today's market.

You could connect with an RF connecter, but I don't know how good of quality the image on your screen would be. You can find a good SDTV by going to Goodwill/Pawn Shops or hit up a local garage sale as people always seem to be selling them. My neighbor is moving and he gave me one of his TV's.

It is possible using the cable connector on an HDTV but it looks like garbage. Hooked my SNES to my 51" Samsung plasma once and it looked horrible. Way too pixelated.

I still have an old 27" RCA floor TV that swivels strictly for my old gaming systems. Thing is almost 25 years old and still works pretty well.

Yea, glad I kept my old CRT TV around for retro gaming.

And look into something called the Everdrive for the Genesis

Re: Retro Console/Game Collecting Thread

I used to have all my old systems on display and hooked up ready to play. But it was a mess. So when I redid the dank, my man cave is called the dank...it's a lovely place, I put all my wonderful old machines in a box and in the attic.

I have all my owned games as roms but it just isn't the same on a pc. I am getting the bug to hook them all up again. But wondering if anyone has a retro gaming setup or display that is playable through switchers or something.

Organization is not my thing, making things work is but I tend to not care about aesthetics. Wondering what your setups are if you have one
