He acknowledges that making weight would have hurt his chances, and for that reason this win is tainted.

We're not talking rehydration, we're talking actually making weight like a pro.
You're right though that Haney's team should have told him to pound salt for not making weight.
Take the $1.5M Garcia lost in a bet he would make weight and walk away.

You make a lot of good points money. I think where I disagree is just on the word “tainted”.

I just look at it like this is something that happens all the time in non heavyweight fights and something that Haney’s camp knew was was going to happen. For me it was up to them to accept these terms and once they did, there’s no excuses.

very entertaining fight - Glad for the outcome too as I've been annoyed by Bill Haney for a while now lol

What are Garcia's plans going forward? Rematch with Davis? Any chance Garcia decides to make the jump to welterweight? Not a lot of rumors about this guy other than wondering whether or not he's mentally stable.

There’s rumors of a rematch clause, a fight with Shakur Stevenson (although I personally think he’s too big for Stevenson), and yeah, the jump up to fight some big boys like Teofimo.

He’s a big draw so there will be no shortage of suitors IMO.

DLH and Garcia made it clear he's not fighting at 140 and below but only catch weights like 144-145 ..or obviously welter would be fine.

So if Tank wants to run it back for the $ he'd have to do it at 144 which would be interesting imo. Garcia had a rib injury leading up to their fight and was weight drained. On fight night he looked fine, but hard to say what it would look like at 144.

I thin you might see 135-140lb fighters move up just to get that bag - after all you want to secure 20-50 mill for a fight and be set for life? yes please.

Then there are crazy match ups at welter or even possibly 154 for RG - you have

Boots Ennis
Tim Tszyu
Bud Crawford
Haney Rematch (at welter)

Those are all massive $ fights.

Good point. I guess I'm just tired of all the jr weight classes, multiple belts and then catchweights for guys under 175. It's gotten ridiculous and makes it too easy to hide from guys.
Then when we do get a good matchup, a fighter doesn't even try to fight by the rules.

He said he can barely make 143 so he's going to jump to 147.

It's kind of sketchy, but shouldn't Tank and Ryan have made a boatload of money given the PPV success of their fight (the live gate alone was $24 million)?

I think Ryan gets crumpled by Ennis or Crawford. Bud is moving on at 154 and Garcia wouldn't even attempt to take him on at that weight or even at a modified 152 catchweight. A Haney rematch is probably short-circuited due to lack of interest.

Champion Boots Ennis will fight challenger Cody Crowley for the IBF 147 title. Ennis gets an 85/15 split advantage which comes to a $3.3 million/$586,000 money advantage. No date or location has been set.
