We all definitely should have put our savings on a US win when Alexi Lalas kept insisting the US would lose this game.

Alexi being wrong is ALSO science you can't argue with.

Re: FIFA 2019 Women's World Cup

In fairness to Rapinoe, she's basically our Ronaldo.

Cocky as ****, and every time she isn't playing well and people start to give her crap and say she's past it, she grabs a bunch of goals and (metaphorically, in Rapinoe's case) takes her shirt off.

They don't just handle adversity, they genuinely seem to revel in it. It's like their fuel.

I honestly don't get all the hate for her all the sudden. Is it because she openly hates the president?

Almost assuredly that, plus as Brahv eluded to, her own ego.

But damn that woman has earned that ego.

Re: FIFA 2019 Women's World Cup

Yeah it's a little bit of everything, but the scrutiny of Rapinoe has been going on longer than Trump being president for sure.

She has always been very cocky, which combined with being a tricky flair-player has always rubbed people the wrong way. She has spent most of her career as a top 5 player in the world, and has been well aware of that fact the entire time.

Her facial expressions are even similar to Ronaldo's, when they score. Same exact "how much do you hate me right now?" smirk on their face, looking directly into the camera.

It's definitely amplified right now by off-the-field stuff, but it's always been there in some form.
