Not like Leafs will actually sign him and then deal Nylander for another top 4 dman and go into next year with Rielly,Muzzin,Pietrangelo and another guy in the top 4.....but I can dream right?
I'm getting tired of this and have started to hope they actually trade Nylander so that he can go to another team and turn into the star he has potential to be. And then Toronto will again have one of those, why did we do that moments... Nylander has actually won something, world championships with sweden. What did the other Toronto stars ever win? Give the guy a break he is your least paid star by far. 4 million less than Marner... The Tavares deal might have ruined the future of this franchise. Islanders turned into a better team without him. His contract set the bar for what Matthews and the others would be asking. Stupid move by a promising team. Might have worked in the pre cap salary days but now you really need to spend wisely.

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

Its not so much deal Nylander because they want to, it's because they have to.

If this wasn't a salary cap league, Leafs wouldn't think of dealing anyone.

Also, Brian Burke admits what we've all know for years. Being GM of the Leafs, or any Canadian team really, if there's a specific guy you really want, add 1M extra to his AAV than you think he's worth because Canadian taxes will force you to need to offer more.

It's one of the reasons why I hate a hard cap system. Play in Vegas vs a Canadian market, you make 10% more.

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

My awards voting thoughts:

Josi for Norris was a given, glad the voters got that right along with Hellebuyck winning the Vezina.

I thought Hughes was better than Makar but Makar had the media hype all year so not surprising that he won it. My first thought for Selke was Danault. (Nichushkin was also robbed damn it)

Breadman, MacKinnon, and Hellebuyck had a better case for Hart than Draisaitl.

Pens trade Hornqvist to Panthers for Matheson....or not.

Theres a "glitch" so the trade hasn't gone through.

There's a chance we get to see Jack Johnson-Matheson pairing and I couldn't be more excited.

Crosby must know what Messi is going through now.

Trade is official now, Florida kicked in Colton Sceviour. Still seems like a big win for Florida.

I wonder if it'll be worse than the JMFJ-Gudbrandson pairing.

Rutherford is certainly a riverboat gambler, but he's nowhere as ****ty as Bartomeu.

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

The whining and moaning by Pens fans about this trade and all others GMJR has made since back to back Cups cracks me up. Always cry about cap space and this and that over advanced heat sheets etc. None of that matter to them when they went on back to back runs out of nowhere.

After 2015 all you read in local media "they are done, the window is closed, depth in WBS is bad etc". Then it was, oh the Pens depth in WBS is solid, these young kids are what the Pens needed etc. Speed etc. LOL idiots!

None of the trades the Pens have made since say 2007 with GMRS has done anything but help or try to help win it all etc. Yes, some bad ones mixed with good and great. 3 Cups. Jesus.

Drives me nuts.

Jack Johnson is only on this team because of 87, a favor of sorts. It didn't work out. But, didn't work out because he played his offside for the majority of his games. He will be fine as a bottom pair guy and even 7th d man, buuuut here comes the crying of his contract. LOL

Sigh

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

In addition to Manny Malholtra, Paul MacLean has also joined Leafs staff. MacLeans previous team....Columbus.

Heres hoping he can help point out to the team some of the obvious reasons why they lost to Columbus.

Given that MacLean worked under Boudreau for a year, and Boudreau has been rumored as a target for the Leafs, I wonder if they'd bring him on as an assistant.
