Of all the names around hockey, that's the one they considered before so many others?

Pens trade Bjugstad to Minnesota for a conditional 2021 7th. Pittsburgh also retaining half of his 4.1 M salary. Pittsburgh opening up cap space, and Minnesota taking a flier on a local boy at a position of need.

Clearing cap space but traded for Kapanen recently too. Wonder what plans the Pens have now.

Murray is all but gone. Some rumors had Leafs as a possible destination, who knows what happens there.

Penguins retaining some salary and still got nothing back.

If TB wants to get out of cap hell, they might actually have to trade away someone good like Cirelli to Colorado

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

NHL needs a luxury cap.

If a team wants to go over, let them. Let them pay the taxed penalty too and then those franchises who are lower down and cant pay as much will get free money

Having a salary cap won't impact the amount that the lower level teams can spend, it just hinders the higher teams.

More trades, Buffalo send Marcus Johansson to Minnesota for Eric Staal.

It's a 1 for 1 trade.

I was surprised that Johansson was only 29. It seems like he's been around forever.

Minnesota also extended Jonas Brodin for 7 years, 6 M per. They've been super active this offseason, but I don't know what they're trying to accomplish. On the other hand, Staal seems like a clean fit for Buffalo as a stop gap second line center until Mittelstadt takes the role (or doesn't).

Wild announce they won't be re-signing Koivu.

Not sure if he'll retire, maybe he'll join a contender and finally get a shot at winning more than 1 round in the playoffs.

Next year will be first year in franchise history that the Wild won't have Koivu or Gaborik on the team.

He was also their only full time captain in franchise history.

I'd imagine Habs fans might want to sign him.

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

So, Pietrangelo will be hitting free agency, this should be fun.

Not like Leafs will actually sign him and then deal Nylander for another top 4 dman and go into next year with Rielly,Muzzin,Pietrangelo and another guy in the top 4.....but I can dream right?
