Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

Overall, I'm a fan of how Yzerman did with the remainder of the draft. Wallinder is a great pick at 32. Kyle Cotton is an interesting pick in the 5th, a guy who went undrafted last year had a monster season this year. Kyle Aucoin is the son of former NHL'er Adrian Aucoin. I much prefer taking a goalie in the later rounds than in the first, thus the Jan Bednar pick makes sense to me.

Picking up a 4th and a 5th by trading down twice, then trading the 5th for a 4th in 2022 is always a good decision. Having Draper announce picking his own son is pretty cool, and Detroit sports teams have an oddly good record recently with the nepotism route (Alex Avila, Tyler Bertuzzi).

I'm curious if Yzerman has another trick or two up his sleeve, otherwise there does not seem to be a reason to buy out Abdelkader; they could just stick him in the press box. He also non-tendered Ehn, Perlini and Bowey. I'm kind of surprised on the last two; Perlini didn't exactly get choice minutes and Bowey had made strides over the last few seasons.

With recent moves, willing to bet Hall ends up in Nashville.

The goalie market looks so crazy, even if it's not 2015.

Schneider
Lundqvist
Crawford
Lehner
Holtby
Howard
Markstrom

Among others

Wish Murray all the best in Ottawa. Hopefully the change in scenery does him good.

A lot of big names, but with Lehner re-upping with Vegas, Markstrom is the only one there worth signing as a starter. Crawford wasn't bad last year, so if you're a team looking for a goalie with playoff XP, then he could be a fit.

Ottawa has had a strange offseason so far. Gudbrandson, Josh Brown and Murray are odd pickups for a rebuilding team. If you need to hit the cap floor, why not take back some bad contracts in return for assets like last offseason?

Bergevin gave 7 years 5.5M AAV to Josh Anderson and I can't stop laughing.

5.5m for a guy who got over 30 points ONCE in his career lol.

Domi got LESS after coming off a season about the same as Andersons BEST, and Habs couldn't agree on a deal with him lol.

Re: NHL 2020 Offseason

I'd like to think this was just beating the Pens giving him the wrong idea, but more likely he's just bad. This rebuilding on the fly thing hasn't really been working out for them. If they want to compete this season, they need more pure goal scoring; signing Hoffman would go a long way.

CBJ shedding a ton of salary today. Nutivaara off to Florida (BTW I love what Florida has done so far), Murray to New Jersey and Wennberg bought out. Perhaps they're gearing up for a run at Hall or Pietrangelo.
