re: MLB Off-Topic

I ran across this factoid today on Huff Post:

4. Despite running about three hours, actual playing time in a Major League Baseball game is under 18 minutes.

According to the Wall Street Journal's own calculations, the 17 minutes and 58 seconds of action includes "balls in play, runner advancement attempts on stolen bases, wild pitches, pitches (balls, strikes, fouls and balls hit into play), trotting batters (on home runs, walks and hit-by-pitches), pickoff throws and even one fake-pickoff throw." Take all those away, and the amount of time that is pure action on the field is about 5 minutes and 47 seconds.

Pretty crazy...I would have NEVER suspected that "actual" playing time to be such a tiny percentage of the "overall"...

Wow. I knew the number would be pretty low, but 5 minutes?

Explains why baseball doesn't translate as well via television broadcast as other sports AND why it makes for such a leisurely day at the park, does it not?

That's pretty crazy about baseball and how much time it takes if you strip away all the other stuff. It's pretty similar to football which the WSJ in 2010 stated is only 11 minutes long if you strip away all the superfluous stuff.

re: MLB Off-Topic

Since there really isn't anywhere to post this in the fantasy section, and I didn't want to make a new thread, I'll just quick ask here.

I have one keeper spot left for my fantasy baseball league, we keep 6 players, 5 are locks for me. The keepers just replace the first 6 rounds of the draft.

Who would you keep? David Price, Jon Lester, Michael Wacha, Aroldis Chapman, Shelby Miller, or Ryu?
