Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

I agree about the Defense...

Though the DL has been a concern year after year, as DT picks don't pan out.

Dobbins might be a good pickup...but between him and Dowdle...can either really be effective as a pass-catcher? I think Pollard will be missed in that regard.

I expect to see a lot more of Schoonmaker and Ferguson...the defensive focus on Lamb could lead both of those guys to have great years.

Dak is still the biggest question mark on offense, even if only because of his position. He seemed to turn a bit of a corner last year...but I'm still skeptical.

I think Hoffman and Bass are going to surprise people.
The regular season finale was the best push up front we
had all year. Biadasz was out, so was Tyler Smith.

We have to hit on the first two picks. Last years sucked.

Winds of change blowing in? Per Ian Rap, sounds like Cowboys aren’t touching Dak’s contract this offseason?

I wonder what Dallas has been offering him. CAA is going to want
to reset the market. They are known for playing hard ball.

A pretty well-researched article detailing how the Cowboys are basically a bottom-four NFL team speaking to total cash spent (not cap space, actual cash flow) on the roster from 2013 onward.

This offseason specifically and this article on top of it have really soured me.

I think part of that is signing guys to bad deals, or them not finishing
their deals. Look at all their Dead Money the last decade. Can't spend
what is dead.

This is from Todd Archer

From 2017 to 2023, dead money accounted for anywhere from 8%
to 18.2% of the Cowboys' cap, per Roster Management System
data. On a projected 2025 cap of $270 million, that dead money
figure could be between 22% and 37%, making it difficult for them
to retain or add players.

Jerry is the GM, he is concerned more with themes. Every year
has a theme.. One year its "We care about character" So we don't
draft Randy Moss. One year it's "we don't need choir boys" and we
sign Greg Hardy..

This year it's win more with less.. Good luck with that one..

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

To be fair on the “themes” point, last year was an “All In” type of year. Prior to the season, there was chatter that we had assembled our best roster since the 2007 season (in-season injuries notwithstanding).

So to that end, I sort of applaud the front office for not having revisionist history. We assembled a great 2023 roster and the same thing happened in the playoffs - only difference is that your defense didn’t show up this time as opposed to the prior two SF playoff losses.

I like the hard ball offseason we’re having and the lack of commitment - although Lamb needs his money yesterday.
