MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)

The game is not without its minor warts, but so far I really like it. Not a fan of the new scouting system but I think its just me, I want that kind of stuff to be simple I don't like to spend too much time on it. So I'll probably auto scout. Commentary is almost identical as last year so far.

The presentations are great. The stadiums look amazing. On the field its very crisp and smooth. I'm waiting to see if the bullpen logic is improved.

I started a franchise with a few teams just to see which one I want to roll with, turns out it appears it will be the SF Giants.

They seem to be a team in transition with no clue where they're going and need me to come in get them going in the right direction.

Was enjoying my first game, a 3-3 tie in the 6th between the Rangers and Pirates…until it crashed on me.

Seems incredibly similar to last years game to be honest. It’s The Show, it’s always going to be good, they aren’t far off making it great. I REALLY hope next year they find a way to improve the grass though - it’s still PS3 in terms of how it looks and would make a massive difference.

Love the sounds, enjoyed starting storylines, just hope it doesn’t go stale as it has done the last couple of years for me.

The Bad

Bat/ball sounds are atrocious.
PETCO Park STILL hasnt gotten a crowd overhaul. Almost everyone in Padres games wears blue and they STILL have the SNELLZILLA #24 sign! He wore that number in spring training when he first got traded over, never once has he worn it in an actual game. It's been 3 years.
Lack of new faces and missing people. I don't get how some people are removed. If they didn't play in the majors last year that means they were in the minors. There is an MILB license, why aren't they in under that?

Pros
New fielding/throwing meter is a welcomed change.
Franchise overhaul with drafting and scouting make it feel new.
Game feels smoother than before.

MLB 16 was the last good one. Then with the focus on DD they start to make the PCI bigger every year.

They took out the competition with 2k years ago. No one else could compete with SDS to be honest. Not anytime soon anyway.
