San Jose, CA- It was another chapter written in the Los Angeles-San Jose Division Rivalry tonight when the LA Kings(17-12-3) met their hated rivals the San Jose Sharks(18-7-5) inside the SAP Center.
This was the first time this Season the hated rivals met.
"We know the history between us. We flat out don't like them. " Kings DefenseMan and Alternate Captain Drew Doughty stated.
It's no secret the amount of animosity between the Two Pacific Division Rivals have lasted for almost a decade with the Two meeting for the first time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2010-2011.
San Jose won in Six Games.
But then Los Angeles won in 2013 and became the 4th Team in NHL History to come back from a 3-0 deficit to win Game 7 in 2014.
San Jose got some payback in 2016 beating the Kings in Five Games on their way to their first ever Stanley Cup Finals.
A loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"Anytime we face the Kings you know it's going to be a battle. They got the best of us tonight but they have been playing great Hockey this year." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.
Last year Los Angeles(17-12-3) missed out on the Playoffs and General Manager Rob Blake went to work. Signing Xavier Ouellet to help boost the Kings.
"He's a great Player for our Team. We're playing well on the ice and are trying to get back to the Stanley Cup." Kings Head Coach John Stevens stated.
Tonight inside the SAP Center the score was 0-0 in the First Period as the Two Rivals played another game of Chess.
Los Angeles(17-12-3) got on the board midway through the Second Period when Ilya Kovalchuk(15) scored after Captain Anze Kopitar found him behind Sharks Goaltender Joey Backstrom.
L.A wouldn't stop there howeveras Nikita Scherbak's 10th Goal of the year put the Kings ahead 2-0 over the defending Champions.
"They're a really good Hockey Team. They won the Cup last year and are one of the best in the League. We may see them down the road if we meet in the Playoffs." Stevens added.
San Jose(18-7-5) will meet Los Angeles quite a bit in December. @LA on December 22. VS LA on December 28.
Then again on New Years Eve inside the Staples Center.
Kovalchuk's 2nd Goal of the night put the Kings up 3-0 in the Third Period until Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski's 15th Goal got the Fins on the board.
Kings Goalie Jonathan Quick had 34 Saves as Sharks Netminder Joey Backstrom had 30 saves.
