Re: NHL to Seattle?

Not really new news but still something.

I never knew the date for the BOG meeting was October 2nd. Less than 4 weeks away.

Looks like December is earliest we'll see an expansion vote.

Re: NHL to Seattle?

Renovations officially approved.

Next up, we find out the exact date NHL will vote on(and approve) the expansion team.

A longshot, but what if Yzerman is part of the Seattle management group? I heard somewhere on TV about Detroit ties he has to someone part of their ownership group.

LOL, I think that's inevitable.
I've read a few times that Yzerman is stepping down because his wife and kids are still living in Detroit and it's taken its toll.
Yzerman is coming to Detroit and Seattle can have Holland and his terrible long-term contracts for bottom 6 forwards and dmen.

Re: NHL to Seattle?

It’s weird that I miss the dominant Detroit Red Wings. They’ve just become another team over the last 5 or so years. So I’m both happy and terrified of Yzerman bringing them back.

Re: NHL to Seattle?

They did their presentation, and went longer than expected(in a good way). 650M in expansion fees for the league will be big. That's like 20M a team, no way anyone rejects them.

Re: NHL to Seattle?

Notes coming out of today:
-Vegas won't take part in expansion draft, but also won't get expansion money (so 30 teams get over 21.5M each)

-Same protection rules as the Vegas draft

-NHL executive board has recommended Seattle for expansion. Official vote coming in December (all but likely passes)

With Vegas not in the draft, I wonder if that opens up a loophole such as teams trading with Vegas. Send a guy they want to protect but can't, and just throw in some late pick and/or cash to Vegas to hang on to that guy for a week.
