Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Watching last nights game, I LOL'd every time they showed Vasilevskiy.
His equipment is so ludicrious in size, it makes you wonder how stupid the NHL's braintrust is for letting things get this far out of control.

He is the same weight as Ken Dryden, but one inch shorter. And yet...

What's even more baffling is there are fans that think there's nothing wrong with this either.

On another note, NHL considering increasing draft age from 18 to 19:

I like this. I'd actually prefer they go to 20YO draft.
Just make an exception that any team can draft an 18YO, but they must play in the NHL for the duration of their entry level deal. No AHL either.
This allows for the Crosby's and McDavids of the world to still play early.

Well it would also mean that players are drafted in CHL later, and that they finish some kind of school at home before going to their CHL team, that might be ok.

Otherwise I don't think that would change hockey that much. And then you will always have a problem with really good players, I think there would be higher chance of some young superstars going to Europe instead of staying in CHL.

But yeah, scouting will probably be much better in that case because players would be developed a little bit more, there would be a little bit less of guessing. Well, at least for most of the teams, there will be some teams that would still be doing mistakes and drafting 6'3 players with weird offensive stats and hoping that they turn into Lucic.

Good points. Especially your first one.
I'll never have this issue as my son isn't going to play anything but rec hockey, but if I did, I'd prefer he finish highschool at home and with his friends and family.
It's also the reason I'd push my son towards an NCAA scholarship instead of going to the OHL.

Remember when we had that discussion about ratings and popularity?

Welp, EPL has surpassed NHL broadcasts in average viewers on NBC.

It seems like soccer's been on the verge of taking off in the U.S. for a long time.
It got to be a cliche. But it does feel like it's on the cusp of challenging the NHL as the 4th most popular team sport in North America.
Attendance is crazy in some parts and now Detroit is looking to build an MLS facility.

This certainly doesn't help my cry for hockey needing more goals to gain popularity, haha.
