Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Nice to see Yzerman still helping the Lightning when he's no longer there.

To sum it up:
Jackets deal Savard to Detroit for Lashoff. Jackets retain 50% of Savards salary.

Wings then dealt Savard to Lightning for a 4th round pick, Wings retain 50% of Savards salary (in other words, Tampa really only pays a quarter of his salary).

Lightning deal a 1st and 3rd pick to Jackets

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

So Leafs copy the Lightning lol.

They got Nick Foligno for a 1st and two 4ths.

They only pay 25% of his salary as a result of the Sharks helping out.

Hate giving up another 1st, but if there's ever a year to do it, it's the year they're in 1st as the faves to win at least 2 rounds, and a draft where little to no real scouting has been done.

TSN and SN must hate this trade because it happened today instead of 18 hours later. They'll have nothing to talk about with the Leafs all but out on attempting to get Taylor Hall.

But now seeing Foligno and Simmonds on the Leafs, those two in the top 9, hopefully they can push back and stop these teams from going for cross checks and slashes against the top guys.

Wings also picked up a 5th for Merrill and a 4th for Nemeth.

It'll be interesting to see if any of Bernier, Filppula, Helm, Gagner, Staal or Glendening will be shipped out tomorrow. Sadly, Bobby Ryan's injury took him off the market.

I agree, it is conference finals or bust for the Leafs this season.

Absolutely CF or bust year. Another plus is that even getting to the CF doesn't mean TB will be in their path. No doubt the Lightning are the faves to win, so avoiding them for as long as possible is best.

A top 9 with Matthews,Marner,Hyman,Nylander,Tavares,Simmonds,Fo ligno,Galchenyuk,Kerfoot is great.

Spezza,Thornton,Mikheyev is their bottom line!

I could still see Kerfoot moved in another move if needed now that they added Foligno.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

If I'm trading 1st for a rental winger, I would have traded it for Taylor Hall.

Sakic still should even though he's traded away pretty much every draft pick from next year's draft.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Wow, Andersen done for the season!

Leafs get Rittich from the Flames for a 3rd.

I wonder what this means going forward. Campbell is their guy next year then? Is Rittich a rental or will they be looking for a Rittich/Campbell tandem next year.

The fun part about this deal too, Rittich could make his Leafs debut on Tuesday...against the Flames!

Leafs just acquired 2 of the guys who have dominated them the last year. Foligno leading the Jackets past the Leafs last year, and Rittich dominating them like no other goalie all season (including their lone shutout).

Not even deadline day yet and I think Leafs won it.

The thing about Hall, Leafs have Matthews,Marner,Nylander,Tavares, they shouldn't need a guy like Hall.

What Foligno brings to the table is something those guys don't.

Well yeah, those other guys are great. Foligno scores at a 4th liner rate and his defensive game isn't worth a 1st imo.

It would have only been worth it if they also got a guy like Elvis coming back too, which was what I hoped when the Avs were linked with Foligno.

He'll be the Leafs best defensive forward, biggest checker, and join their below average PK.

So he fits their needs big time.

Let's not forget, this is a weak draft with poor scouting, and Leafs 1st pick is basically a 2nd. The difference in player between who the Leafs 1st pick gets vs who goes in the early 2nd round isn't very different.
