Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Phillies win it all. They are hungry. If they beat the Braves. I believe that's the only team that can hold them back.

All you can do is make the playoffs every year to maximize your chances, try to minimize your team weaknesses, pray your key players are healthy, and hope the dice roll your way.

If this continues, though, I imagine we'll start hearing some squawking from bye teams about the 6-day break between the end of the regular season and the start of the LDS.

The new playoff format was such a bad idea. I hated it when it was first approved before the Braves were bit by it last year. It's such a dumb idea. It blows my mind that people around baseball thought it was even a half decent idea. This isn't football. Taking time off does not help a baseball player. This is a timing game, the week off hurts the higher seeded team.

My preference would've been to keep the playoff field at 10 (and the one-game elimination) while increasing the LDS to a best-of-7, but that ship's sailed. Sometime in the next decade or so (shortly after MLB hits 32 teams), we're almost certainly getting an NBA/NHL 16-team bracket, and everyone here (including me) is gonna hate it.
