Braves didn't lose because of the format. I do believe 100% the format does not help the higher seeded teams with the layoff, but that's from my own experience from playing baseball for 20 years. Not everyone will feel like I do and I get that.
I am all for the WC teams having a much rougher path, though. I hate that more and more teams are being added to the playoffs, but I understand it from a TV point of view. Since we are stuck with it, can we at least make the format actually give the higher seeds a much bigger advantage than it currently does? The season is 162 games for a reason. Reward the teams that are the best teams over the course of that long season.
Alter the format so the WC teams have a rougher path or shorten the season.
