Spanish Cup Round 4 Leg 2 Match at Malaga
Leg 1 : Las Palmas, 2-0

Starting Eleven:
GK - F. Assmann
DR - Juanpa
DL - D. Lopez
DC - A. Lamas
DC - D. Garcia
DMC - Josico
MR - S. Darino
ML - D. Leon
MC - Jorge
ST - M. Marquez
ST - S. Rondon

Subs - Pindado, G. Beranger, S. Pignol, Guayre, M. Garcia

Injured - Samuel, A. Cejudo

First Half

1' - A horrible start as they quickly move down the pitch and center tha ball to Caicedo and he scores!
10' - David Garcia misses a steal attempt and Caicedo gets free and scores again!
19' - A nice cross by Malaga that leads to a header attempt but Assmann is their to deflect it high!
22' - Darino with a nice pass that leads to Marquez getting a good look and he fires but its off the post!
23' - A cross by Malaga leads to Caicedo gaining possession in the area and he dumps it off to Duda who scores it! We now trail 3-0 and are facing elimination.
38' - Rondon goes down hard after a tackle by Malaga and he needs to come off for treatment.
41' - Darino gets a yellow card for jumping unfairly for a header.

Half Time
Malaga 3 : 0 Las Palmas

Wow, we couldn't have asked for a worse start. We had this round in control with the 2 goal advantage but now are looking directly at elimination. If we can get 1 goal and lose by only 2 we win the tie breaker, so that will be our strategy for the 2nd half. Just like the first leg Malaga is dominating possession and shots but this time they are scoring.

Second Half

46' - Just like the first half they score in the opening minute, this time Rondon's poor pass leads to a breakaway goal by Caicedo.
51' - Jorge with a nice corner and Lamas gets a great header opportunity but he misses it high!
57 - Malaga has a breakaway and Lamas pulls the guy's jersey and receives a red card! Pignol comes in for Josico to form the defense but we were relying on Josico to add support.
62' - A cross by Malaga leads to yet another goal, this time by Obinna. And we are dead trailing 5-0. We bring on Guayre for Darino in a last ditch effort.
67' - A breakaway by Caicedo but Assmann denies him, then Forestieri fires on the rebound but Assmann denies him! Forestieri controls the rebound and puts it in this time!
74' - M. Garcia comes on for Leon.
90+1' - Malaga adds another goal off a corner, 7-0 now. Gross.

Final
Malaga 7 : 0 Las Palmas

Wow. Looking back at this we probably should've played more conservative early on and played for a draw but we were thinking if we could get a goal we would be in good shape to advance. Instead things unraveled and the guys gave up.

Man of the Match: Malaga's Felipe Caicedo (9.7 f/t rating, 3 goals, 1 assist)

League Match vs. Murcia (4-5-3, 12th)

Starting Eleven:
GK - F. Assmann
DR - S. Pignol
DL - D. Lopez
DC - A. Lamas
DC - D. Garcia
DMC - Josico
MR - S. Darino
ML - D. Leon
MC - Jorge
ST - M. Marquez
ST - Guayre

Subs - Pindado, G. Beranger, Juanpa, F. Suarez, M. Garcia, S. Suarez, D. Gonzalez

Injured - Samuel, A. Cejudo

First Half

17' - Murcia works in right to left, finally firing on goal but Assmann is there to turn it away!
21' - Guayre gets the ball at the top of the penalty area and makes a nice move to create space. He shoots but is denied, a missed opportunity there!
27' - Leon fires a pass into the area to Guayre he makes a move to create space and this time finds the net!!
45' - We get the ball in deep thanks to a nice cross by Darino, with Guayre controlling it - he passes back to Jorge who has a lane but before he can shoot it they get a piece of the ball and force the corner.

Half Time
Las Palmas 1 : 0 Murcia

A nice response to the blow out loss against Malaga, not that Murcia is at that level but still we have played well. We have taken 7 shots with 3 on target, while they have taken 5 shots with 1 on target. Both defenses are dominating in the air and passing poorly. We bring Sergio Suarez in for Guayre as he continues to get back into shape.

Second Half

49' - A nice pass by Murcia into the area and Natalio is free but Assmann saves the shot! On the rebound Lopez is able to clear before any damage is done.
57' - A great corner with a header shot by Murcia but its high of the net!
61' - Francis Suarez comes on for Diego Leon.
62' - Murcia's Pereyra receives a yellow card for holding F. Suarez's jersey.
66' - Josico feeds it forward to Jorge who passes it ahead to Marquez on a through ball and he scores it! But wait he is ruled offsides!
72' - A great cross by Murcia leads to a header but Assmann gets enough of it to deflect it high off the cross bar!
73' - Miguel Garcia comes on for Jorge to add support to defense.
74' - Sergio Suarez has what looks to be a clear path to the goal but they close quickly making him rush his shot and their keeper deflects it wide!
90+4' - A corner kick given to Murcia and its placed well leading to a header but the shot is way off the mark and the whistle is blown!

Final
Las Palmas 1 : 0 Murcia

It wasn't pretty but we will take it. A good solid effort from everyone, we did not have a f/t rating of less than 6.8. Murcia controlled most of the 2nd half as we went to a contain strategy to hold the lead. That strategy helped them to a shot advantage of 20-9. However, they only had 3 shots on target while we had 4.

Man of the Match: Andres Lamas (7.3 f/t rating, 16/16 headers w/ 8 key and 5 interceptions)

Milestones: David Garcia made his 200 career league appearance, all with Las Palmas.

Ipswich (Coca-Cola Championship) has accepted our $16.5K offer for Center Midfielder Reggie Lamb. Lamb is only 18 years old and considered a high level prospect.

Lamb wants $54K per year, but our board is only allowing $49.5K.

We offer $49.5K per year until 6/2012 with a $2.5K signing bonus.
