90 seconds into the first city, just a road and creating 1 small residential and 1 small industrial zone (no water/power, etc)

Default High Settings - ~60fps
Default Medium Settings - ~100fps
Is it slowing down erratically?

32gb

Default High settings with VSync off has me getting 25fps before I put a road down. Even the main menu was a laggy mess. Going to have to tweak some settings to get this playing better, but it's about as disappointing as I was expecting given what we were told by those with early access.

Will fire up on Gamepass tonight and see what's what.
I will eventually get STEAM version but only after any issues are ironed out.

Why get the Steam version if the Gamepass version is free and the Workshop is no longer a part of the equation?

I prefer STEAM due to MS locking down their executable files etc..
I use Logitech game software to program certain keyboard controls to my mouse buttons as well as my gameboard..
I select the games EXE when I make a profile and it loads up icon of game etc..

On Game pass I cannot select the EXE file as it's locked down.

I can still manually make a profile etc.. with game pass games but it's less seamless for me.

Second is I like outright owning my games rather than needing to keep subscribing. Just a personal pref.
I rarely buy games much these days except for Simulations and survival games.. So I don't really spend a whole lot on games in a year.
So basically use GP to play game a while to help decide if I want to go all in.

Re: Cities Skylines II

Turning off depth of field and turning down volumetric quality basically more than doubled my frames and now with a small town I'm getting closer to 40ish fps compared to the 25 I was getting before with a completely empty map. I don't want to know what the frames would be like had I not made those settings changes.

Clearly something is wrong with the optimization, but at least some tweaks can keep the game looking fine without killing the frames.

I will say that I am really enjoying the game now. The way the road tools all work now feel like a dream compared to CS1 even with mods. It's so intuitive and you can truly make some atrocious intersections if your heart desires.

I'm not a fan of many of the detached home models nor the car models, but I knew coming in I'd be using custom assets, so that's not a big deal.

Right now my biggest issue is not being able to disable parking on a road without making sidewalk changes to the road. I don't like the look of the wide sidewalks in certain parts of my town, but I also don't want parking on those streets. Maybe I'm missing something.

I also don't like that when you place stop signs that it makes it an all way stop. For many of my t-shaped junctions I just want to place 1 or 2 stop signs, not 3.

Re: Cities Skylines II

Yeah optimization is very bad. 4K maxed out I was getting around 21 fps with my RTX 4090 and 12900K. Turned off motion blur and depth of field, hovering in the low 30s. Game is fun though, at times however I don't like how hard it can be to connect sewer pipes or electrical cables. Same thing with bull dozing stuff, you have to really zoom in for the thing to click on what you want to click on. But this is one of these games where the hours fly by very fast.

Re: Cities Skylines II

Here's some play from my game, specs are i5-12600 4.8Ghz, 32Gb Corsair RAM, SSD Samsung 980 Pro, 4080 MSI Ventus 16GB RTX

Settings: Medium
Average about 45-50 FPS (you can see my FPS and temp in upper left, it's tiny though)

I had no issues playing it, once I moved everything from Ultra (that the game suggested btw) down to Medium, but it's very poorly optimized for sure.
