Imo, the main reason 2k players didn't use the hostage dribble was and still is the inability of trailing defenders to contest/block jumpshots from behind. That's not how it works irl.

That's why 'crabbing' is so popular in the 2k community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6WPyh3sBoQ

Trailing defenders are able to block layups/dunks with the chase down artist badge. It should be the same for stand still jumpshots.
I need all these out comes. I'm sure the community would take on to it. If it was balanced

What do you mean? Crabbing is still in the game and trailing defenders who get stuck on the dribbler's back without a collision can neither contest nor block the shot.

That's why I'm saying defenders should have a window to block the shot if timed correctly. A high-risk, high-reward option. So if the timing is perfect, they'll get the block. If not, they will foul the shooter just like in this clip.

are essentially the same concept, one is just tied to an animation…you’ll even still see the animation at times when guards are setting up a crab since it’s contextual instead of manual this year.

Other than that, We are saying the same thing. As far as competitive play, adding the ability to manually trigger it has to come with balances so it’s not abused.

Exactly, it's obvious that dribblers in this situation have the advantage but defenders (especially good ones) should have a chance, even if it's small.

At the very least, we need these three outcomes for trailing defenders:
1. https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFI...%20Jump%20Shot
2.https://youtu.be/pTlR1ocEIn4?t=263

I loved to use the trailing defender momentum against him for an easy stepback jumper. One of the most satisfying moves to trigger.
Here's a comparison between Dlo and Shaqfu. Who did it better?

DLo version seems clean. But your version I'll even take doing it once. Last night I was playing a game. I thought I finally figured it out. I had tiny success with holding L2 down and flicking the left stick in the direction of the ball handler. That would caused a bump for a few seconds. I gave up after that

After trying hundreds of times, I managed to trigger a ''succesful'' hostage dribble in these plays (2k24 Current-Gen).

A couple of these are solid but it's still not looking right on the whole.
