Encouraging news for the show as CBS has already bumped up the episodes from 13 to 22 on the heels of its impressive ratings performance for week one.

I thought the first episode was okay, liked it enough to watch it again in November. A thought I had, why didn’t they use the sets from Sheldon’s home in Texas from BBT? Would have added a nice bit of continuity between the two shows. Did they ever mention Sheldon’s Dad being a football coach in BBT? I only recall them saying he was a drunk and a story where Sheldon went to work with his dad and figured out his dad was stealing from the register and his dad was fired.

I think I remember something about his father drinking a lot. In Young Sheldon he obviously seems like a decent guy but maybe his addictions get the better of him later on.

When I see his father I can't get Bill Ponderosa (Always Sunny In Philadelphia) out of my head.

It's possible the house just went under renovations in the 20 years between this show and the bbt episodes of his house.

I don't think they said his job, but it's possible that cash register one happens later on. Like take your kids to work day in a future episode since he's in high school.

As for football, Sheldon did say he knew so much about football because of his dad, so that's probably closest reference we have. His dad seems fine for now, but there's 3-4 years I think between the first season VS when he dies, so if they are on that long, I'm sure they'll make him go down a bad path.

It was basically an "early preview". Get people interested in September so that once it begins its full airing in November, more people will have known about it.

They can't air this and BBT together due to scheduling reasons. They already got a full Monday lineup, and with TNF on, that's 1 less day of shows. Once TNF ends is when BBT/Young Sheldon begins on Thursdays.
