I just watched a video Rick Pitino posted endorsing the hire, and now I’m ready to run through a wall lol.

We should bring him on as an assistant. The more I think about this. It's what we've been clamoring for. Pope will give us 3 to 4 year players. He will make it a point to get Kentucky recruits. Guys that really want to play for the name on the front.

If Pope can bring in high quality transfers. This might end up being a good hire. Now BYU is a far cry from Kentucky and Pope has never won a NCAA tournament game. But he had BYU being pretty damn good last year.

Kentucky went with the the same formula that UNC and Duke did by hiring a former player. The problem for Pope though is he has to deliver quickly. This is such an impatient fan base, and just guaging the fans. They are nervous about this hire and already calling for Mitch to step down lol. Hell I'm a bit nervous. But I'm gonna give him a chance.

Damn Pitino, tell us you want to come home without telling us you want to come home. Didn't know he still felt that way.

Re: 2023-24 College Hoops Thread

For UK I think the Pope hire is what had to happen; in reality, a big name coach doesn’t want to be the guy who follows in Calipari’s shoes. Instead, UK gets a young guy who is motivated, is a part of the program’s history, and can build something. If he falls flat in his face, big name coaches are probably more likely to follow that. If he succeeds, great for UK.

Yes they beat KU in Phog Allen Fieldhouse, literally only 1-2 teams do that a year lol.

I think he will be fine as well but the SEC will be a beast this year especially with Texas and OU coming in. Interested to see how he does as well.

Yep he's getting thrown to the wolves off the rip next year. We have a meeting with Cooper Flagg and Duke early in the season.

I would imagine we play Duke as well only we will play them at Cameron Indoor, its part of the SEC/ACC Challenge and we played them in Bud Walton this year.

Watching this press conference announcing Mark Pope, you’d think there is a basketball game going on. So many people in Rupp.
