Actually, we were the designated home team. I don't know why, but we were. We had the home uniforms and they had the road uniforms, plus our score was on the right side of the scoreboard signifying us as the home team. Maybe it is based off of records since they are 0-1 and we are 2-0. I am not sure.

Honolulu, HI - The first round of the Hawaiian Invitational saw the Duke Blue Devils take on the Princeton Tigers. Duke took control early, but Princeton countered and got within 3 points late in the first half with the score 27-24 in favor of Duke. Duke would lead by 10 at the half. In the second half Duke would pull away until Princeton went on a huge run that tied the game at 49 with 6 minutes remaining. Unfortunately for Princeton, they ran out of gas during the comeback, as Duke went on to win 72-60 and advance to the second round.

Princeton was,once again, led by senior Kyle Koncz. Koncz scored a career-high 34 points in the game, one game after scoring 31 points against the Iona Gaels. Koncz drained 10 of his 17 three point attempts in the game as he shot lights out. Zach Woolridge was the only other Tiger in double-figures as he scored 10 points in addition to grabbing 7 rebounds.

Coach Frizzell picks up his first career loss with the loss. The Princeton Tigers fall to 2-1 on the young season. The Princeton Tigers will take on the Arizona State Sun Devils (0-1) in the 4th place bracket tomorrow.

Arizona State Easily Dismantles Tigers

The Arizona State Sun Devils easily won this game off a strong start, as they took a quick 40-17 halftime lead as the Princeton Tigers were clearly outclassed by Arizona State. Arizona State rested most of their starters in the second half as Princeton closed the gap, but could not come all the way back, despite outscoring the Sun Devils 34-26 in the second period of play. "We were just outclassed and they had superior talent," commented Coach Frizzell in a post-game press conference. "We played well in the second half against their second-stringers and I felt we did a good job there, but we are certainly not on the same level of the big boys yet, which I did not expect we would be." The Sun Devils used a balanced scoring attack as seven starters scored at least five points and 11 out of 12 players on the roster scored in the game, which ultimately won them the game.

Poor Shooting Leads to Blowout Loss to Cowboys

"Whew, I am glad this game is over," commented Coach Frizzell after his team's 71-41 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Coach Frizzell's team was pummeled by the Cowboys as they destroyed them by a tune of 30 points. Princeton stayed in the game early on, taking a 14-12 lead early on. However, late in the first half, Oklahoma State made a huge run to grab a commanding 44-22 halftime lead. Oklahoma State went on to whoop Princeton's butt in convincing fashion, winning 71-41 and making the Princeton Tigers an embarrassing 0-3 in the Hawaiian Invitational, giving them a last place finish. "Well, I wish we could have done better, but at least we gave some effort out there," commented a weary Coach Frizzell. "I think we were really tired today, because, after all, playing three games in three days is tough." The key too this game was the shooting percetages. Oklahoma State shot 60% while Princeton shot a lowly 30%. "We need to work on both offense and defense," Coach Frizzell explained. "We shot horrible, but I think that was a result of our fatigue as we missed a lot of shots short. On defense we were just slow to the ball. I am not too worried, but we still must work on our game to be able to win the Ivy League like we hope to."

Princeton Falls to Seton Hall at Home

The Seton Hall Priates walked away with their sixth game of the season and kept their undefeated season going as their record now stands at 6-0. The Pirates beat the Princeton Tigers on their home floor, the first home loss of Coach Frizzell's coaching career. Seton Hall jumped ahead early and stormed out of the gates, eventually taking a 38-22 lead going into the last few minutes of the first half. However, Princeton would counter with a huge 14-0 run highlighted by two Kyle Koncz three pointers, including a buzzer beater to end the first half, which cut Seton Hall's lead to just two at 38-36 heading to halftime. The crowd was wild and this had all the makings of an upset. Seton Hall, however, came out on fire in the second half as they went on a 15-2 run early to put the game away en route to a 73-57 win on the road. "I don't know what Coach Gonzales [Seton Hall's head coach] said to his team at halftime," commented Coach Frizzell, "but it certainly worked. I though I said quite an inspiring halftime speech myself, but I guess I can learn some tips from Coach Gonzales." The main difference of the game was the turnover battle. Princeton was careless with the ball all day long, which resulted in a season-high 20 turnovers compared to Seton Hall's seven. "That is my main criticism of this game," commented Coach Frizzell. "If we had not turned the ball over this would have been a very competitive game. We will certainly work on securing the ball in practice this week, I can assure you of that."
