I give you props for how long you have ran your original thread and that fact that we will one day see 1,000,000 views on it, but it's always fun to start a new closed legacy and live through the years of the rebuild and making a name for yourself. Being this is your alma mater and the fact you are already running another legacy with a team in the Big East, how long do you feel you will say at UNC Greensboro before taking a job offer

Thanks! Yeah, it’s fun for something different. I love my other legacy, but winning all the time, and having the expectation to win a lot, does sometimes get a bit tiring, so I am hoping this can help to mix things up for me and freshen the game while still allowing me to make progress on my WVU legacy.

As far as how long I’d stick around at UNCG, I’m not sure. It is my alma mater, so I have some inclination towards sticking around long-term and trying to turn it into some kind of Gonzaga. But at the same time, I could jump up to the mid major conference level and do that, too. I’ll just have to see how things go. I would hesitate to move to the power conference level given I am already there in my other legacy, but we’ll see how things go! I am hoping that my sliders are tough enough that getting another job offer will be a tough proposition, but we’ll see!

With all of teams jumping conferences in real life, i sure hope that they include the ability to make custom conferences in any future games especially one where you could change them mid legacy..

That definitely would’ve been sweet. Unfortunately, I don’t know if we’ll ever see a college basketball game again.

But, on the positive side, it’s allowed me to play 31+ years in my other CH 2K8 legacy that I never would’ve had time to do otherwise.

UNC Greensboro (5-10) vs. Appalachian State (8-6)
Holmes Center
Boone, NC
January 12th, 2008

The struggles continued for UNC Greensboro Spartans tonight, as they suffered a 99-84 defeat against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, marking their third consecutive loss and seventh defeat in eight games.

The Spartans (5-10, 2-4) fell behind early on, trailing 50-43 at halftime, and could not catch up in the second half despite scoring 41 points. Appalachian State totaled 50 first half points and 49 points in the second half to come up just one point short of the coveted 100-point mark as they hit their shots consistently all game long.

Kyle Hines and Kevin Oleksiak shined for UNC Greensboro. Hines led the team with 19 points on 9-14 shooting and also contributed 3 steals, while Oleksiak followed closely with 18 points, making a living at the free throw line, where he made 8 of 12 attempts. Mikko Koivisto came off the bench to score 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Darrius Seller showed his all-round game with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

On the other side, the Mountaineers (8-6, 4-2) had a strong performance, outscoring the Spartans in both halves. They shot a strong 58% from the field, including an impressive 9 of 16 from 3-point territory. The Mountaineers dominated the glass, where they outrebounded the smaller Spartans 40-21. That, along with the Mountaineers' superior shooting, made it tough for the Spartans to hang as the game wore on.

Leading the way for the Mountaineers was bench player Louis Verdejo, who scored a game-high 23 points on 10-13 shooting, including a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc. Verdejo also grabbed five rebounds for the Mountaineers. Starters Domonic Humphries and Al Horton also chipped in with 17 and 12 points respectively. Elvin Ireland had a strong presence on the boards, pulling down 9 rebounds along with scoring 10 points.

The Spartans have a week off to rest and recuperate as they will look to emerge from their slump in their next outing at regional rival Elon next Saturday.

vs.
UNC Greensboro (6-10) vs. Elon (10-6)
Schar Center
Elon, NC
January 19th, 2008

The UNC Greensboro Spartans pulled off an upset Saturday, handing Elon Phoenix a 74-56 defeat fueled by a strong second half performance.

The Spartans (6-10, 3-4) came into the contest as underdogs against the Phoenix (10-6, 6-4), but managed to outscore Elon 42-21 in the second half, turning a first-half deficit into a resounding victory. Coming in to tonight's game, the Spartans had lost three straight and seven of their last eight games.

Kyle Hines was a standout for UNC Greensboro, putting up 21 points and securing 8 rebounds. He also chipped in 4 assists and a career-high 6 steals. Mikko Koivisto also had a significant impact off the bench, adding 15 points. Kendall Toney hit four three-pointers to score 12 points for the Spartans.

The Spartans dipped a little deeper into their bench than usual as the Spartans opted for a 10-man rotation tonight, with 10 players recording at least 10 minutes of game action.

Elon's usually potent offense seemed to lose steam after the first half. The Phoenix scored just 21 second half points. Ricardo Strong was the leading scorer with 12 points, but the Phoenix struggled to find the basket in the final 20 minutes.

"This is a huge win for us," said UNC Greensboro head coach Lee Williamson after the game. "It's been a struggle as of late for us, and so it feels great to get a win back up on the scoreboard. I'm confident we can keep this momentum going in our future games."

The Spartans will look to build on today's momentum next Thursday when they face College of Charleston on the road.

UNC Greensboro (6-11) vs. College of Charleston (7-11)
TD Arena
Charleston, SC
January 24th, 2008

Toree Harvey and Kerry Laws led the Charleston Cougars (7-11, 4-5) to a hard-fought 91-81 victory over the UNC Greensboro Spartans (6-11, 3-5) at home tonight.

Harvey scored 27 points, making an impressive 11 of his 13 shots, including 4 from beyond the arc, and handed out 11 assists for a double-double. Laws added 22 points of his own, including 4 three-pointers, in the Cougars' seventh win of the season.

UNC Greensboro kept the game competitive, with standout performances from Kyle Hines, who posted a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Kevin Oleksiak, who added 13 points. But the Spartans struggled from long distance, hitting only 4 of 16 attempts from beyond the arc, which proved crucial in their 11th loss of the season.

The Cougars led 51-41 at halftime, with the Spartans matching their 40 points in the second half, but failing to reduce the deficit. Charleston made 11 three-pointers and shot an impressive 54% from the field overall.

Charles Hicks and Raheim Nichols also contributed for the Cougars with 8 points each, while Hassan Warner added 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Off the bench, Landon Clement and Daniel Oliver were bright spots for the Spartans, scoring 12 and 8 points, respectively.

UNC Greensboro will look to bounce back from this loss in two days on the road against The Citadel. The Spartans were upset by the Bulldogs in a humiliating 84-65 defeat at home back on January 7th in their prior matchup.

vs.
UNC Greensboro (7-11) vs. The Citadel (4-12)
McAlister Field House
Charleston, SC
January 26th, 2008

The UNC Greensboro Spartans improved to 7-11 (4-5 in conference) with a 77-68 road victory over the Citadel Bulldogs tonight on the road, who fell to 4-12 and 2-6 in the conference.

The Bulldogs handed the Spartans an embarrassing 19-point loss at home earlier this month, so tonight's nine-point win was extra sweet for the Spartans, who have had a rough month.

Kyle Hines was the standout performer for the Spartans, with 20 points in 32 minutes. Hines also contributed 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block. However, he wasn't alone in his efforts as Kendall Toney put up 16 points, hitting four three-pointers, and Mikko Koivisto came off the bench to add 18 points to the Spartans' total. Koivisto's four free throws in the final minute iced the victory for the Spartans.

The game was close throughout and the Spartans led by just one point, 30-29, at the halftime break. They were able to extend their lead a bit in the second half, but the Bulldogs kept the game within reach until the final buzzer.

Despite the loss, The Citadel had notable performances from Parker Henson, who scored 14 points, and Varney Hoskins who put up 10 points and distributed 9 assists, coming just one assist shy of a double-double. Antanas Petrauskas also had a solid performance with 10 points on an efficient 5-6 shooting from the field.

The Spartans shot an impressive 51% from the field, and made 7 of 18 attempts from beyond the arc. They also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs 36-24.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, struggled from three-point territory, making just 4 of 16 attempts.

UNC Greensboro will look to build on their momentum when they return home to Greensboro, NC to host the Elon Phoenix next Saturday after six days off. The Bulldogs upset the Phoenix a week ago in a commanding 74-56 victory.
