Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Surprisingly, Islanders give Trotz the boot. He's going to be the most popular coaching candidate in this weak class. Make the call Yzerman.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

If it was Holland, I'd be buying hard into the old boys club pick. Yzerman has shown me enough to trust in what he does.

I'll also be curious if he decides to open the wallet a bit more or wait...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Blashill is finally out. The second half swoon finished him off. Sadly, this probably should have been done last year when there were many more quality candidates available.

Retreads include...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

It probably gets put into a trust and gets sold. As terrible as this sounds, this is a great day for Senators fans.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Blackwell is not a bad depth pickup either.

That trade did allow Vancouver to essentially turn Hamonic into Dermott, which is a win for them.

Would have thought that Detroit could have gotten...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Looks like the Ducks are hiring Pat Verbeek as GM.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Honestly, I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. That cup run was an anomaly.

If I'm Montreal, I'm looking at Mathieu Darche. Director of Hockey Ops of the Lightning since 2019. Also fills...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

From a hockey standpoint, it was probably time for Bob Murray to step aside anyways. I don't think he's done that bad of a job at drafting/trading, but holy crap this team has an issue with player...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Buffalo gets a top 10 protected 1st, 2nd, Tuch and Krebs. They're also sending a 3rd along with Eichel.

Well, it's more than they got for O'Reilly. Still, my issue is I have no faith they can...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Maybe they thought about doing a something different like a best of 7 (3? 5?) between the winners of the WHL and the Q, ditching the OHL and whoever was slated to be the host? I agree that it makes...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Mantha to Washington for Vrana, 1st, 2nd next year and Panik.

Vrana is only 25 and is an impending RFA. While probably not a part of any future core, he could be a good trade asset next season.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Wings also picked up a 5th for Merrill and a 4th for Nemeth.

It'll be interesting to see if any of Bernier, Filppula, Helm, Gagner, Staal or Glendening will be shipped out tomorrow. Sadly, Bobby...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

I agree, the no body checking rule sounds a bit silly when looking at the game as a whole. How do you regulate it? Suspend players who commit a check? What about incidental contact? What about...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

I imagine you'll see teams trend more towards video scouting, like the MLB. For example, Houston is almost 100% video scouting (although they're the extreme). Although the data is much less readily...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Fair enough. I could see this happening with the other four Canadian teams I mentioned. Whether it's Calgary's depth, Oiler's goaltending, Winnipeg's lack of talent on D or Montreal's deficiency of...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Toffoli was a deadline pickup, Stecher was a 3rd pairing guy. Schmidt should be an upgrade over Tanev. Vancouver was 1-2 against Calgary last season.

I'd say Elias Pettersson was their best...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

The main downside would be stunting the development of young talent. I imaging we'll see more kids on the roster than normal due to the AHL potentially being in flux next season. That or they'll loan...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

I get the feeling Yzerman is going to hold onto Blashill for another year, mostly due to timing. It's not that I think he's the worst coach ever, but I think his message has gone stale and there are...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Alex Lafreniere would have jumped the rebuild ahead by 1 year, but at the end of the day, it's not like the Wings' would have been good next year anyways. I'm thinking earliest 2021-22, more likely...
