Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

NHL is now having the award show during the SCF, in the higher seeds arena I believe between gm 3 and 4.

Seems convenient enough. Probably also an easy way to write off attending a SCF game as a business expense.

On the flip side, I know people have talked about ways the NHL and NBA could change the draft lottery, and I think a tournament would work out too.

Bottom 4 teams play each other in a tournament styled format. Whoever wins the tournament gets the 1st pick AND the draft lottery host for that same year. You don't think fans in the host city won't be excited for that, with their team drafting 1st.

Wow

Melnyk dead at 62 due to an illness.

Say what you want about him as an owner, but this is definitely a crazy day for hockey. 62 is definitely too young.

Don't even know what happens with the ownership now, who even takes over?

And stuff like this always puts things in perspective. No matter how much money you make, or what you plan for the future, you could go at any day.

It probably gets put into a trust and gets sold. As terrible as this sounds, this is a great day for Senators fans.

No doubt his estate, whoever that is, inherits the team. It's an asset like any other. What happens after that is up to them though I guess the league could pressure them into selling for various reasons such as financial sustainability or simply because they have no real interest in the game.

Ottawa and QC discussing a joint deal for....2023 WJC

Probably not a sign of things to come with QC Sens or anything like that. As much as I want QC to get a team, I don't want to see Ottawa lose theirs.

Sadly, I think that's the only way Quebec City is ever going to get another team.

Crazy how just last night during the Leafs game they were talking about him. I wouldn't have guessed he leads the NHL all time in goals per game, even though he did have almost his entire career of 50+ goals, but it does make sense since his career ended early due to injury, so he didn't have declining years, like Gretzky and Lemieux scoring at a .8 GPG average in the peak of their careers.
