Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread

I think we've known from the start that they were going to try to protect refs by not overturning calls. Which is completely the opposite of the point of VAR, and makes the situation worse.

They need to do it the exact same way as rugby. A sport where the refs are actually a part of the game, and not outsider pariahs who are yelled and hated constantly.

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread

If they can't get referees assigned as VARs to do it correctly, PGMOL should take it out of the refs hands and go with the central location model used in such leagues as the NFL, NHL, and MLB. But PGMOL's response to the Dean comments tells us they will never do what they should. They are apparently content with their image among those watching being incompetence and lack of integrity.

If the most sensitive people on Earth - MLB umpires - were able to be convinced to rely on someone sitting in New York looking at a screen, anyone can be convinced.

Pretty insane how many terrible starts United have had under ETH. Then Arsenal does it too.

And then interesting strategies by Fulham and Forest to get guys sent off and concede penalties

Also it’s kinda funny that Kane finally left Spurs when they get a manager with a system where he’d score like 50 goals
