Re: The Official 2021-22 Season Talk Thread

Kyle Beach has come out and stated he's "John Doe".

I hope the NHL seriously disciplines the Hawks for this beyond just some 2M fine. He was a first round pick in 08, went through all that stuff in just his 2nd pro season, and never ended up making it to the NHL. Have to imagine everything he went through had an impact on his career.

Beach’s interview was hard to watch and the fact that Quenneville is coaching in a game right now is peak NHL

And Quenneville and Cheveldayoff should be toast.
2 B? I don't think the Hawks are even worth that. 200 M would be tough, but maybe spread out over 10 seasons it could be feasible. Not saying they don't deserve the maximum punishment possible, but it still has to be within the realm of possibility. The NHL isn't going to contract one of their O6 franchises. They should probably throw some draft pick punishment at them too.

Quenneville is almost certainly toast. Cheveldayoff I could see surviving (with punishment), but still I'd gamble on him being gone too.

I'm exaggerating, of course. But man, the Blackhawks and everyone associated with this should be sent a message, and it appears the message the NHL is sending is, "This isn't as bad as trying to circumnavigate the cap."

The reason, unfortunately, is that the (probably overwhelming) majority of owners, execs, coaches, players would react the same way that Chicago did. It's all "protect the brand", "stay true to the old boys club", CYA, all the time.

Re: The Official 2021-22 Season Talk Thread

So basically Toews claims that they never knew the seriousness of the situation the entire time it was going in, and Kane claimed he never knew who "John Doe" was until he revealed who he really is.

Sounds believable...

Quenneville resigns, Andrew Brunette takes over in Florida.

EDIT: Looks like Chevy is going unpunished.

Re: The Official 2021-22 Season Talk Thread

A crazy sequence.

Red Wings get a goal, then the refs call a penalty on the Leafs.

The replay shows the ref raised his arm before the goal, so in those situations, a goal on a delayed call negates the penalty.

However, Detroit's player is bleeding, so what would have been a 4 minute penalty turns into just a 2 minute penalty due to the goal.

But then, after review, turns out the blood happened because of a Detroit stick, so no penalty afterall.
