Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

I wonder if there were more involved or these are the only ones being punished as scapegoats in a way.

Hart seems to be the only notable. The rest are bottom line guys if not worse.

Batherson is one of the big names aware of the incident but apparently he might have been an "innocent bystander", as claims go that he was invited for pizza, came by, saw what was happening and left. Seems he might have been one of the guys helping figure out who was involved.

If guys get proven guilty, wonder if we see someone "naming names" trying to cut a deal to reduce whatever punishment they're gonna get.

Even if they're found not guilty, these guys are KHL-bound, UNLESS there's a clear Duke lacrosse-style exoneration.

Flames said Dube was out for mental health reasons.

The story will now also be whether teams actually knew or not. Especially in this case, did Dube step away and just told Flames it was mental health related and that's it. Or did Flames know and tried covering up why he's not there.

Also, every player who is part of this doesn't have a contract beyond this season. I think they're all RFAs, but definitely their team won't qualify them and nobody signs them (except Chicago or Edmonton).

Likely both. For legal reasons, none of the players likely told their teams what was going to happen, but the teams still knew. Dube probably told the Flames "mental health" and the Flames ran with it without realizing it might blow up in their faces. The hockey world is small, none of this surprised anyone.

NHL won't allow anyone on charges to be signed, and it looks like a trial won't start until 2026 at the earliest, so...

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Looking back, it's shocking how much that kind of stuff was normalized by everyone "back in the day" - the league, the teams, the media, the fans. Me included.

I was 16 when the Doug Gilmour babysitter accusations came out - it was in the newspapers, so everyone knew about it, most assumed her story was true, nobody really cared. As soon as the story broke, Gilmour was immediately (as in, the next day!) traded to the Flames where he won a Cup, then became an icon with the Leafs and into the HHOF.

I vaguely remember the 1990 Caps gang rape accusations (which included a pair of future Hall of Famers) as well. Things came and went pretty quickly back then. And that's only the stuff that (briefly) made the news.

Not if Ken Holland gets to them first!

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Slowly the stories will come out.

People claiming Mcleod was the one who started it. As in he called up the guys on the team to join in.
