2024 Offseason Thread

Question: Was it going to be automatic that Wilson was going to start and Pickett wasn’t going to have a chance to compete at all? Or was going to be an open comp and he didn’t want any part of it?

Just trying to make sense of it because why go to a team where you’ll be holding a clipboard again barring injury?

If that's the case, I hope he realizes that he isn't going to compete in Philly either. As an Eagle fan, I guess it's alright. They haven't had much success in Backup QBs since Foles. Only cost moving down 22 spots and 2 future 7ths. At the very least, they get a cost effective backup for the next 2 seasons.

I imagine he's upset at essentially taking the fall for an under-manned and poorly led offense.

Exactly, the only way Pickett gets on the field is during preseason, a blowout or an injury.

I haven’t seen an indication he got to chose his destination?

All I’ve seen is that he hasn’t taken the Russ signing well at all and that combined with him refusing to dress as the number two QB last year when he was healthy led to the Steelers being ready to move on. They had really tried to re-sign Mason FWIW but they burned that bridge already.

I’m actually amazed at the offer they did get, not hard to believe that was just the best offer.

So basically he threw a fit and didn’t wanna compete that starting spot. Like I’m not sure why he wouldn’t feel good about beating him out for the starting job.

Him not dressing in the last game of the regular season doesn’t really bother me as long as they don’t have a track record of doing things that could “look” bad for the player.

Giving up a 3rd for a “backup” is wild though, from Philly’s side

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread

When Mason came in and Pickett was asked if he was "learning" anything his response was "no", so that showed me all I needed to know what type of person he is.

A player, especially a QB never stops learning, so for him to say that was ridiculous.

Taken from former Steeler Arthur Moats...it's about one minute into the video.
