Thank you Reggie. I've probably said that exact same thing a billion times over the years in these game threads. Drives me absolutely nuts when these refs wait to see if a basket goes in or not to call a foul. A foul is a foul whether the shot goes in or not, so blow the damn whistle when you see the foul

Not sure if it was an official explanation or somebody giving their best guess, but at one point I heard/read the idea was if the contact was minimal and the shot goes in they will let them play on to avoid stoppage. If it looked minimal but they view it as being enough to force a miss then they’ll go ahead and call the foul. Basically the idea is if it was minimal enough to not effect the shot they play on to avoid slowing the game down even more than all the reviews, stoppages, etc already do.

Doesn’t really make sense to me because I’ve seen too many far too obvious fouls that weren’t really “minimal” not called until they saw a miss and easily should have been an and-1 had it went in.
