Biggio is never going to get in at this point.

Sheffield is also available next year, but let's be honest, there is no chance he makes the HoF.
Forgot about Smoltz and he's a dead lock next year. That rotation only won one WS?

I doubt Smoltz is a lock, He's a lock for me, but for the BBWA? Who could know.

You're right who knows how these whack jobs will vote. Smoltz was a premier starter who went to the bullpen because the team needed him to do it and became a premier reliever. Not an easy thing to do. Eckersley did it but I don't think he could have started efficiently any more at that point. Smoltz could have.

I don't need any convincing, Anyone that can put up the numbers he did, and thrive as a starter and a closer should be a lock. We all know how slippery a slope it is to be a consistent presence at both of those position's, and Smoltzy relished in each role.

Smoltz will make it, but not on the first ballot.

Gotta say, kind of disappointed Maddux didn't get a unanimous selection on OS either. And Bagwell is just underrated, had he played his career in Boston, it would have been a much different story. If you play for the Astros your doomed it seems.

Re: 2014 OS HOF Voting

I think Smoltz should make it first ballot, and I think BBWAA will probably do it too because of other circumstances.

For one, Smoltz has a lot of the lazy stats locked up. 200+ Wins, 150+ Saves, and fantastic ERA for his era (yes, I know, ERA+ but since BBWAA doesn't want to use this evil stat...)

In all honesty, looking at it, there is little doubt he should get in. Impressive WHIP, very good ERA+ (that 2003 season, good lord), 3000 strikeouts...great resume.

Add all that in with being a guy whom everyone likes, I think Smoltz is going to squeeze in there. And I think Biggio will be just short once again.

My biggest question on next year is, can Pedro and Johnson top Maddux? I think there is no doubt Pedro should be a unanimous vote, but they won't be. Johnson will probably hover around 90% or so.

I think you're being too optimistic on Pedro. The fact that he only won 219 games will be held against him.

Johnson will get 90%+ of the vote though.
