when do players regress in franchise mode?

I have a bunch of 32-35 yr old relievers I want to re-sign to one year deals but I'm wondering when they regress. I'm just past the ASB and worry if I sign them to 4-5 million deals now, by the offseason they could lose 3 overall points or so and I could have gotten them for cheaper.

Is this accurate? When do players regress?

Re: when do players regress in franchise mode?

I've noticed the drop like flies zone is typically 34+. The older they are, the better the chance. I typically only touch STA and DUR during edits, but this year I'm leaning towards trying to counteract the extreme regression as a whole.

While I haven't set it in stone yet, I think I'm going to use 4.xx ERA as a baseline to counteract the drop like flies extreme. I believe others here have halved the regressed attributes across the board for these extreme cases, so that's what I'll do, rounding up when needed. I want to set a ceiling on pitch control, but i'm not sure what that number might be just yet.

Like the poster above said, age-related regression usually hits heavy during age 34 season.

Progression is dynamic from what I've witnessed.

Playing around with roster creation recently, I've had multiple young 80+ potential prospects go through bad seasons, and they've dropped noticeably in rating.

Would like to add that progression is dynamic, until its not in the case of J.J Bleday in a Marlins practice run I did where he went up 3 OA points despite hitting .150 in double-a.

OK thank you everyone.

Has anyone noticed a major drop in regression once the off-season starts? Or it's all dynamic?

Mitch Moreland has lost 6 points in power and a couple OVR points in under 2 months. Obviously he's not an all-star to begin with, but he's right at 34 and will probably be under replacement level very soon for me. And he also hit six homers in that time frame.

I don't know that it is unrealistic to expect players to fall off a cliff in their mid 30s. Look at A.Pujols. With STL a .328/.420/.617 slash line with an 86.6 WAR in 11 seasons. With LAA a .258/.314/.450 line with a 14.4 WAR in 8 seasons. And the drop-off started in his first season with the Angels at age 32. His highest WAR with the Angels would have been his lowest low with STL. I'm sure you can find countless examples throughout history. Father time is undefeated.
