With LAA a .258/.314/.450 line with a 14.4 WAR in 8 seasons. And the drop-off started in his first season with the Angels at age 32. His highest WAR with the Angels would have been his lowest low with STL. I'm sure you can find countless examples throughout history. Father time is undefeated.
Its not unrealistic to expect regression at these ages. I won't argue that. I do think 90+ OVR dropping to 50-something OVR while not seeing much of a drop off in stats, in the span of a season, is extreme. If attributes are supposed to mean anything, a drastic drop there should coincide with a drop (or rise) in stats. Might fire up a franchise later and jot down notes along the way.

I personally have never seen that big of a drop during the season regardless of stats. Big drops are in the 15-20 range.

It’s not unrealistic, but the problem in my opinion is that the current system doesn’t really allow any exceptions. The game just hammers their attributes no matter their stats in the season. A Nelson Cruz couldn’t happen in game naturally. For example in my franchise he’s still hitting great but all his attributes are already down -5 anyway and it’s not quite even 2 months in yet.

A Verlander probably couldn’t happen either. I think the game needs to factor in performance more and not automatically plummet older players ratings off a cliff. I think some regression no matter what is realistic, but it shouldn’t be drastic even if the player is doing well.
