Re: Let's talk online "Fair Play"

Fair Play just doesn't feel right since you have a game the restrict you of your coaching options. That should never be done. In fact, fair play made up faults in the gameplay that allowed players to get 4th downs to easily. Plus at times when going for 4th down made sense, it restricts you (4th & 4 on opp 37, too far for kicker range, to short for punt range, might as well go for it). Plus the games are so quick with 5 min quarters, sometimes when you get behind you want to take the risk so you aren't behind to long before the gap gets larger and time gets smaller...

If the AI and animation system is better programed so Qb sneaks, dropping to far back and always rolling out, and no huddling all the time won't be such an effective tool anymore (while done in realistic matter). Then there shouldn't be a need for Fair Play at all because if your getting beat on 4th down with some yards to go, you're just being outplayed.

I just don't think Fair Play would be necessary if those mention points were dealt with. Those who still complain aren't just good as their opponent or something then.

Re: Let's talk online "Fair Play"

These are the fairplay rules we use on the site I run:

Situational Rules

HURRY UP OFFENSE:
-1st half - Only under 2 minutes left
-2nd half - Only under 2 minutes in 2nd half.
-2nd half - Any time if you are down by 14+ in 4th quarter

4th DOWN:
- Allowed to go for it anytime down by 16 or more in the 4th.
- Allowed to go for it anytime down under 2:30 minutes.
- Allowed to go for it ANYTIME from your opponents 39 yard line to the goal line.

ONSIDE KICK:
-Allowed anytime down by 16 or more in the game
-Allowed anytime down under 2:30 minutes in the 4th

2 POINT CONVERSION:
-Allowed anytime it makes mathematical sense (e.g. down by 8, 11, 16, 18..)

Very simple yet effective... have been using them since Madden 360 came out...

I would love for ''Fair Play'' to make a comeback. Just let people go for it if their losing by 21 pts. or more in any quarter. That's good enough for me.

But ideally people want to play freely, without restriction. Even if this does result in a little cheese, it comes down to "Risk vs Reward", just like in the NFL. Whats more realistic then that? After all, no team in the actual NFL is forced to punt or field goal, so I think this should hold true in Madden.
Yea u right no team is forced to punt or do any of the things that are considered "unwritten rules" , but gamers don't have as much at stake like NFL coaches, players and teams. Not punting can result in stupidly losing game, which will lose fans, which will most importantly will lose $$$. It just makes more sense b/c the "unwritten rules" in real life are those things that help the bottom line to win game. In the gamer world its just a lost on ur ranking or a frustrated opponet. So it's like who cares
But I think fair play is needed though.

Who cares? The people who pay 60$ for FOOTBALL, not whatever cheese crap that is being played online.... It's the same reason people come on here so upset about glitches and whatnot. If you really feel that way, then you should have no problem with WR direct snap, Goal Line formation all game, heck it's just a videogame, anything goes!

Going for it on 4th down:

*never from your side of the 50 during the first 3 quarters unless your down by 21+.
*Any time and place during the 4th quarter is allowed unless your up by 21+
*Any time on your opponents side of the 50 unless your up by 21+

Onside kick:
*Any time during the game if your down by 21+
*Never if your up by 11+
*Once per first half allowed so long as it doesnt conflict with the 2 items above
*Unlimited once under 3 mins(assuming 5 min qtrs) if it doesn't conflict with the first 2 items above.

No Huddle:

*Exaggerated fatigue for any team other than the Colts when run outside of the final 2 mins of a half.
**Set a fatigue "floor" and force the offense to make subs when enough players hit this "floor" in terms of fatigue levels
*Any time under 2 mins in the half
*Any time your down by 21+
*Never if your up by 21+

Playclock:

*Shorten the playclock by 5-10 seconds
-OR-
*have the game track your average "snap point" on the playclock and if your averaging less than 10 secs left then it could accelerate the playclock to get you back in line. This would have no effect on a player who averages more than 10 secs left at the "snap point" nor would running it down once or twice in appropriate situations have an adverse effect.

Re: Let's talk online "Fair Play"

Next Gen clearly needs fair play back. It'd eliminate a lot of these little cheeser kids who exploit the game because they have nothing better to do.

Re: Let's talk online "Fair Play"

Maybe instead of Fair Play, introduce a new profile stat like a "cheese rating" for instances when Fair Play would normally be in effect.

Instead of restricting the players, allow them to do what they want, but running a no huddle for x%/going for it on 4th within certain guidelines/onside kicking it when it doesn't make sense/2pt conversion's/ or whatever wouldn't constitute "normal" football would all add to this rating.

Allow this rating to be filtered and displayed prominently on user profile stats. People can be cheesy if they want, but the rest of the world would know about it.

(Edits)
To the guy below, this rating wouldn't be determined by other players, but would automatically add up in instances where the Fair Play rules would normally be in effect.

There should also be a way to repair this rating somehow, but only against unique opponents, or against opponents played against less than a certain amount of time with diminishing returns.. this way you can redeem yourself for "cheesing", but you can't just be a cheeser, then just fix it by playing your brother online over and over again.
