Florida Season Recap

Gators end the season for a (simmed) bowl loss to Oregon. Despite the loss, the both the coaches and media kept them at #3 in the end of the year poll. A loss on October 16th at UCF is what kept them out of the National Title game. The Knights did end up finishing the season at #25 in the polls. A narrow home win aginst 5-7 Georgia may have hurt them as well.

Sean White had a fantastic season. He finished second in Heisman voting. He also broke the school records for Rushing Yards in a season and Rushing Touchdowns in a season. Backup Pat Williams had 564 yards on the ground in limited work. He'll be the expected #1 back next year but you wonder how much he's not happy with his work load this year, when he could have been the feature back at most other schools.

Junior QB Lawrence Jones had a solid season, after starting the first game as backup, even after a decent previous season. He finished over 200 yards in the air and had a very good 20-7 touchdowns to interceptions.

Fullback Andre Arnold was very good in his Sophomore year, going for 286 yards on the ground in very limited rush attempts. Sophomore Kevin Russ finished first on the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown catches.

Sophomore Kicker Brian Hill was erratic. He was 12 for 19 on field-goal attempts. He was perfect 9 of 9 under 30 yards, but only 3 of 7 between 30 and 39 yards and he was 0 for 3 over 40 yards

2022 Offseason Recap

Coaching Carousel: Lots of HC job offers, turned them down and turned down an extension. Thinking I'll end up staying to finish up the contract and then moving on. Currently year 3 of 5. Both DC Pat Fitzgerald and OC PJ Fleck signed contract extensions.

Players leaving: Sophomore Kevin Russ, Gators top WR, is declaring for the draft. As is the 2nd best receiver, Junior Justin Charles. Another WR is leaving, Freshman Josh Smith is transferring out due to playing time.

NFL Draft: 6 players drafted. 2 1st Round rounders: RE Dustin Arnold and LOLB George East. Both Russ and Charles declaring early went in the 7th Round.

Final recruiting: Another solid class, #6 national best. Signed 2 five star recruits. Signed #1 DT and #2 G

Moved Junior HB to full-back (to 51 rating) to give him a chance in blowout games or injury to starting FB Andre Arnold. Also to avoid a walk-on.

Preseason
Poll: #3
Prestige: 6 Star
Conf Outlook: 1st of 12
Championship Contenders: A+
Toughest Places to Play: 1

Gators are posed for a National Title. Florida is now a six star school, picked to win the Sun Belt, and now The Swap is toughest place to play in the country.

Arkansas Razorbacks at Florida Gators
Week 21ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Arkansas Razorbacks (0-1 (0-1))07007
#3 Florida Gators (1-0 (1-0))3100316
Arkansas Razorbacks
Florida Gators

Gators go to 2-0 on the very young season. What seems to be apparent is that this team is not the high scoring team of the last season. They seem to be a grind out and keep the ball forever team.

After a 24-10 win over Georgia Tech, this week was a close 16-7 win. Which was closer than it maybe should have been. Once again this season, it seems like the Gators Achilles heel will be kicking. JT Parsons hit twice from short range but missed both of his attempts from over 40 yards (45 and 46 yards). Which over the last couple of seasons the Gators haven't lost because of trouble with Field Goals, but this could very well come back to hurt them sometime.

Next week is a trip to Boone to face the #10 Mountaineers.
